Claim Jumper Restaurant chain, Files for Bankruptcy

Gold-rush themed restaurant — and possible purveyors of condom soup — Claim Jumper has filed for bankruptcy. The company's Chapter 11 documents cite debts totaling as much as $500 million; they are looking to sell the chain and hope to keep restaurants open in the meantime. The 45 Gold Rush restaurants in eight states are estimated to be worth about $100 million. Guess serving gigantic, artery-clogging portions with the expectation your customers will ask for a doggy-bag isn't the best business plan.

2. When I went to that restaurant. Their menu was so pricy

we decided not to return. The food sucked too. Wait staff was very horrible.

4. We enjoyed Claim Jumper

Unfortunately, it's not quite in the budget these days.

I wonder if they'll rethink the gigantic portions and lower prices a bit while they shop for a buyer.

5. There are a lot of restaurants that have the philosophy

that "more is better", so they pile on more toppings, more fat, more sodium, and when the food is just served and some of the ingredients are fresh (although chains use a good deal of frozen stuff it seems) and it's piping hot, it's palatable and looks pretty good. But at the size of those portions, most customers are taking home a doggie bag--

And then once that food is refrigerated and looks like mama's old coffee-can of bacon-drippings, you just can't go back. I've taken stuff home from TGIFriday's and Ruby Tuesdays, and looked at the cold lump of congealed lardiness the nest day in horror: Egads! How much of that mess did I eat? I've never been to a Claim Jumper, but I'm guessing it's the same deal.

6. That place is disgusting.

They should open their chain in third world nations where one portion would feed an entire village.
