I had two other links but they don't seem to work anymore.

..and neither does this one. Shit, it worked just a minute ago. Sorry folks. Ya would've loved it. Admin might as well delete this.

8. Sometimes old threads work, and sometimes they don't
I find that when I try to access the old DU archives or threads prior to July 2003 sometimes they work and sometimes they do not, and I get the message SCRIPT ERROR when they do not.

This has been the case for quite some time.

13. US pulls the plug on Muslim websites (September 10, 2001)
I remember posting this story in DU late on the night of September 10, 2001. I recall making a point that the FBI was on a witchhunt. What is interesting about this story, is that it broke in The Guardian nearly a week after the FBI raids.

US pulls the plug on Muslim websites

Islamic groups have condemned a government crackdown on a Texan telecoms company as part of a "witch-hunt", writes Brian Whitaker

guardian.co.uk, Monday 10 September 2001 16.38 BST

Five hundred websites - many of them with an Arab or Muslim connection - crashed last Wednesday when an anti-terrorism taskforce raided InfoCom Corporation in Texas.

The 80-strong taskforce that descended upon the IT company included FBI agents, Secret Service agents, Diplomatic Security agents, tax inspectors, immigration officials, customs officials, department of commerce officials and computer experts.

Three days later, they were still busy inside the building, reportedly copying every hard disc they could find. InfoCom hosts websites for numerous clients in the Middle East, including al-Jazeera (the satellite TV station), al-Sharq (a daily newspaper in Qatar), and Birzeit (the Palestinian university on the West Bank).

It also hosts sites for several Muslim organisations in the United States, among them the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Students Association, the Islamic Association for Palestine, and the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development.

In addition, InfoCom is the registered owner of ".iq" - the internet country code for Iraq.

18. I remember that.
A close friend had posted regularly on some Muslim websites which went down a few days before the attack.I recall his suspicion that something was in the works.

Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. I sometimes go and look up old funny threads there. I've been trying to find the first ever post on DU forever now. I remember it was something like "Nice fucking forum. Nobody's here." or something like that. I remember it was funny, whatever it was.

RE: 9/11
I have a mental block from that day. Sometimes, I can remember my first reaction to it. I will never forget the videos the MSM news channels played over and over again. What my mental block does for me is take away some of the unresolved torment from that day. What I always go back to is the Changing of the Guards outside Buckingham Palace. They played our national anthem and people outside the palace put their hands over their hearts.

Nothing mealy mouthed jerk Bush could say or do could console me. I wanted a leader during that time. Our own government standing around singing God Bless America and talking about crusades just pissed me off. That just wasn't cutting it. It was like salt in a fresh wound.

But, when the Queen had her own Guard play our national anthem...that actually calmed me down somehow. Actually, all of the well wishes to our country from all over the world, helped, but that one I remember the most. I also remember Queen Elizabeth, herself, doing a recorded speech to Americans. It wasn't about patriotism or anything like that for me. It was knowing that not EVERYBODY in the world hated us. It was knowing that the rest of the countries didn't hate average Americans. They weren't sneering at us. They weren't hating on us or saying we had it coming. They felt for us, the people of America.

Our own government of that time, especially Bush, couldn't seem to muster that same sense of compassion or sense of sadness about what happened. Our own government, during that time, just did a bunch of grand standing to immediately talk about going to war, sing God Bless America incessantly and talk about Crusades and other phony nonsense for show. That didn't help. At least, it didn't help for me.

I don't think many of us will ever be over 9/11. And damn Faux News for the video loops they refused to quit showing repetitively for weeks on end...y'all know the ones I am talking about. I am sure you do. They are the horrific videos many of us will never forget. Damn Faux News.

P.S. Edited to add: I miss Khephra. :(

19. That was really interesting reading. Pentagon first reported as a bombing!
Makes you wonder. Comments from DUers were interesting saying that they wouldn't be surprised if bsh did this, he got the war he wanted. And people were questioning how everyone knew it was a terrorist attack immediately.

Thanks for posting this.
