Hurricane Igor appears to be a threat to shipping lanes.

5. Not unusual for mid-September

Strung out like airplanes queued up to land at your city's airport.

People in Bermuda should make sure they all have clean pairs of shorts on hand.

that usually spared them the worst. That said, Igor does look ominous. When you're a tiny island it's easy for the eye to miss you. That's why Hispaniola and Cuba usually fare the worst in the Caribbean. Jamaica is lucky because of our shape.

Today in 1988 Hurricane Gilbert was devastating Jamaica from Morant Point to Negril.
So far peak season has been mostly in the Atlantic.

Some areas will flood because we've had a lot of rain. I don't want to think about the new potholes coming for the roads but it's better than having to think about an approaching hurricane. :D

There are few sights in the natural world more impressive than a hurricane near maximum intensity. Hurricane Igor certainly fits that description this morning, as it flirts with Category 5 strength in the Central Atlantic. Igor's rapid intensification burst brought the mighty hurricane's winds to 150 mph, just shy of the 156 mph threshold for Category 5 status. Igor is the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic in three years. The last hurricane stronger that Igor was Category 5 Hurricane Felix of 2007.
