Do you ever forget why you had somebody on 'ignore'?
The title of a topic intrigued me. I couldn't read it because I noticed the author was on 'ignore'. So I logged out and read the topic. I wondered what the person had posted which had caused me to put him or her on my tiny ignore list.

I looked at my ignore list and saw there were about 6 or 7 names on it. Over the years, I've placed a few members on ignore. It's never because I don't appreciate where they're coming from politically. People who wind up on my ignore list have to have directed very nasty and rude posts to me. Many years ago my feelings would get hurt more easily than now. ;)

These days a few of the people I most appreciate are those who feel completely differently than me on certain issues but argur politely. And I try to pay attention to their nuances so I don't become offensive to them.

Has anybody put me on your ignore list? :D

1. I have never used the tool...
I feel that if you, the collective you, are on a message board to exchange ideas and opinion, you should expect that people will react and sometimes over react.

Over the years, I have posted some controversial post about controversial topics.

I have learned, after about 9 years of active posting here and at BartCop, that people are not always going to agree with me.

The mods do a pretty good job of ferreting out the crap.

In the case of having a stalker, well then I can see the efficacy of the ignore option.

13. Same here
If I see something objectionable and I'm not inclined to reply, I'm perfectly capable of ignoring it--without some magic button--and going on to other things.

I may encounter a situation in the future in which I may want to resort to the tool, but it hasn't happened yet--and I doubt it ever will.

Putting someone on "Ignore" is classic Head in the Sand..
YOU can no longer see what the Ignored person says in a response to you, but everyone else reading DU can.

I've only ever put maybe three people on ignore since the feature became available. I currently have none on ignore. If I see something posted by someone I don't care for I just think "Oh, that asshole" and just keep scrolling.

8. Anybody who has you on their ignore list can't answer you, lol.
I don't have anyone on ignore. I used it in earlier years, and found that, if I went back to review the list once a year, most I'd put on ignore had been tombstoned.

I don't put people on ignore anymore. I mostly (but not always) ignore their threads and posts, but I don't "disappear" them to do so. Time is precious. I can skip by without clicking, choosing not to waste time on assholes without putting them out of sight and mind.

33. Some I have forgotten why, others I haven't...
A couple of them I removed from my ignore list in an effort to sort of give the person another chance.

I soon regretted the decision, although it was good to be reminded of why the person was there in the first place, and I quickly put the person back on my ignore list.

I don't generally place anyone on that list just for having a different opinion, as long as, like you said, we can disagree without being disagreeable. Or nasty. There are lots of people here with the ability to do that, thank goodness. Disagree without being nasty, I mean.

People can get a little hot under the collar at times, I realize that....but one thing I won't tolerate is name-calling. Or vulgarity directed against me. I don't mind someone saying "Fuck it", but "Fuck you" or "Go fuck yourself" earns the person the standard retort I would give a five year old child and an automatic trip to the ignore box where all nasty little kids go on "vacations".

Oh, and I realize that I'm probably on more than a couple of Ignore lists myself. Not because I've ever used vulgar language toward anyone, but because some people just don't care for my opinion, or their own opinion on who, or what, they think I am.

Oh well. That's life.

PS...you are not now, nor have you ever been, on my ignore list.

b) supportive of and even ADVOCATING Republican economic policy of ANY kind (Reaganomics, Milton Friedman, Laissez-Faire, Fair/Flat tax, offshore outsourcing, zero-sum globalization, "competitiveness", etc) on a progressive board. 52. I have LOTS of people on Ignore. I don't usually Ignore for one specific act
but more for a pattern of posts that are insulting/asinine/abusive/idiotic. I know that I have a volatile temper, and I'd rather just Ignore the people who are guaranteed to get under my skin and piss me off than to interact with them and deal with anger and resentment every day. After all, I don't subject myself to the posts on Freeperville because they upset me too much--so why not apply that same remedy to the people HERE who consistently upset me?

My SO, Rhythm, actually teases me about my Ignore list. There's one particular forum here on DU where I have SO MANY of the "regulars" there on Ignore that I can't see a single post on the front page of that forum. It looks totally empty when viewed from my account.

Hey, whatever decreases the friction, right?
