Shocking!: **IMF urges stimulus to help "dire" job market**

OSLO (Reuters) – The world's rich countries need to extend initiatives to boost spending and support employment to fix a "dire" labor market that could threaten entire societies, the International Monetary Fund said on Monday.
At a conference co-hosted by the IMF and the International Labor Organization, visiting Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero said high unemployment may trigger a "crisis of confidence" in Europe.
The IMF said more and more workers worldwide were unable to find jobs for longer periods, weakening social cohesion and raising risks of unrest and even undermining democracy.
"The labor market is in dire straits," IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn told the one-day meeting, adding that the Great Recession had left a "wasteland of joblessness." "We must acknowledge that the crisis will not be over until unemployment declines significantly," he said, calling growth and jobs the "most urgent problems." <snip>

When even the IMF starts advocating stimulus and saying jobs are more important than deficits, it's really time to pay attention.

Time to disband the deficit commission and convene commissions on jobs and poverty.

Well, it was time 2 years ago but if this doesn't give us the political cover to do it, nothing will.

1. President Obama has ratcheted up the Populist Rhetoric this week.
I have been delighted with his recent public performances.
I pray he puts deeds to his words.
If he shows up for the fight,
I will STAND beside him.

5. Their agenda is clear.
I'll pop in and kick this for wider distribution among the lower 98% of us who have to Work for a Living.

7. When even the IMF starts advocating stimulus
I think the elites are finally starting to get concerned about what a worldwide angry mob might mean for their own necks.

Might be too late though.

8. great-I plan to focus a lot of my editorial time on how America screwed itself
or,more specifically, how the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 did nothing to help create jobs, did nothing to support the troops, and only succeeded in supporting the top 2% of the nation...

10. I think we can make the same case about tax cuts for the top for the past 30 years.
Weak job creation; Stagnant/declining wages in the few jobs that were created.

The history is undeniable. When the top rates were high, the middle class was growing AND poverty was being reduced. All the destruction of the working/middle classes and the rise in poverty have their roots in the policies ushered in by Reagan.

15. They must be wanting a stimulus from rich nations
Themselves.

So they can make more disastrous loans
To poor nations.

18. Two things:
Either the IMF is looking for more $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for their aristocratic owners or their are scared that
the people are angry and a real crisis could exist that would threaten their existence.

19. Or...
the whole world economy is about to come crashing down and they've finally figured out it can't be rebuilt by a few bankers and a bunch of people without jobs.

I thought something was afoot a few months ago when Bernanke warned Congress not to cut spending. When a true believer like Ben stops preaching deficit reduction...Repent!...the end is near.
