BP and the Gov't: Reforming Image, Setting Precedent
The Gulf of Mexico, her marine life and the people of the Gulf coast are a political sacrifice, and one that the Obama administration had no right to make.
The lies of BP and our government are as toxic as the oil that remains in the Gulf, and the dispersant that BP continues to be used in full view, and apparently with approval from, our government. There is a massive cover-up taking place on the Gulf coast, in full view of the "public", the people, in full view of the corporate media, in full view of the world.
Most importantly, BP and the U.S. government, through their actions in the Gulf, have set about creating precedent as to how spills will be handled. Through the lies of "seafood safety" and "most of the oil gone", the U.S. government and BP have colluded to hide the truth from the public that they don't seem to mind poisoning. In addition, the methods used to contain the oil are currently being framed in a way as though these methods "worked", and so, you can count on it, will potentially be used again, unless a grass roots movement, nationwide, is built to demand an end to practices that harm the environment and people.
The political sacrifice of the Gulf of Mexico is closely tied in with the continued use of dispersants to sink and disperse the oil that remains in the Gulf. You won't hear about this in the New Orleans Times Picayune, beholden to the oil industry and the lifting of the so-called drilling moratorium, or in the corporate media, not that folks haven't been trying to alert the media to these issues.
