Texas Skateboarder rescues Quran from burning
A man who planned to burn a Quran in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday didn't get very far when his copy of the Muslim holy book was snatched out of his hands by a skateboard-toting 23-year-old, according to local media reports.
"I snuck up behind him and took his Quran," Isom told KFDA-TV. "He said something about burnin the Quran. I said, 'Dude, you have no Quran,' and ran off."

8. Why?
Are you denying that the book was taken from it's legal owner without his permission. That no money for a purchase was received in exchange for the book?

That, by law is theft. And there are laws against it, with proscribed penalty's.

11. Because I have not mentioned any book or any theft.
Though for the record, I agree the skateboarder stole the book.

4. Mr. Isom also took away another citizen's First Amendment rights
No praise for that.

10. No, actually I didn't
We all have the freedom to express ourselves, within broad, lawful bounds. Burning a book is one of these forms of free expression. By stealing Mr. Grisham's Quran, Mr. Isom took away Mr. Grisham's right to express himself freely in this country.

You may not like a person's form of free expression, but it is still their right to express themselves in any manner.

6. It was theft, illegal -- and beautiful civil disobedience.
Incidents like this have the potential for doing so much for the U.S. image among Muslims.

But the rightwing will be yelling about theft -- just wait and see.

9. It's not civil disobedience at all
Civil disobedience is breaking the law to achieve a greater good knowing (and accepting) that there will be severe consequences (usually jail) for having done so - the Civil Rights marchers, nuns protesting at nuclear sites, etc. Junior wasn't trying to be civilly disobedient - he just acted on an immature impulse and broke the law by stealing, as well as taking away another American's First Amendment rights. Nothing to be very proud about.

13. "Severe consequences".
Well... just look at junior.

He probably weighs 110 lbs soaking wet, and would most likely have received a major league ass-tuning if he had the courage and willingness to accept the consequences of his "civil disobedience".

But no... just like any low-life thief, he turned tail and scurried away.

12. If this happened in a blue state, DU would be cheering
but no, it happened in Texas, so instead we get hand-wringing & tut-tutting about theft & violating someone's First Amendment rights (which, btw, can only be "violated" or "denied" by the government, not another private citizen).
