Anyone with experience, knowledge or thoughts on volunteering in Haiti?
My wife is a Dr. but can only volunteer for up to 2 weeks.
If someone shows me how to do anything in construction, plumbing, electrical, I can do it. I have worked a lot on my own house, but I am not trained. I am fine doing any work really. I can do up to a month.
We are available this winter, even during the holidays (but maybe things are shut down then?)
We are able to pay our own way if that is how it is done.
We don't speak french or creole.

Any information about specific organizations to check out or avoid, thoughts about whether or not someone like me is even needed, I would really appreciate it.

I can find many things on google, but it is a bit overwhelming. I am hoping someone here can help me narrow things down a bit.

Thank you both.

If you do go you must steel yourself for an intensely shocking experience, double up on the antidepressants. I needed to, and that was before the earthquake.

The Smile Train always needs Drs. and crews of all skills to set up surgical stations.

5. Have you contacted Habitat For Humanity?
and maybe the organization your wife volunteers with might have some information for you(?)

I'd really love to do the same thing, but don't really have the right skills.

6. I filled out their online form but haven't heard back yet
It would be ideal to find an organization that could use both me and my wife, but I realize that is probably difficult.
