My advice to the Democrats, for what it's worth.

It would be to stake a position and stick with it. Do not float out in space waiting for a position to negotiate on with the Republicans.

Be firm. Be adamant. For example, "No, we have no intention of extending the taxcuts for millionaires under any circumstances. There is no room for negotiation on this matter."

These taxcuts, unpaid for, have added over $3 trillion dollars to the credit card of our children and grandchildren in the last ten years. It would be reckless and foolish to think of extending these taxcuts any further. The Republicans voted to let them expire at the end of this year and we will agree with their initial vote. We cannot afford them any longer.

We will offer to keep the taxcuts for the middle-class for an extended period of time for up to $250,000 dollars. They have created jobs with their taxcuts, unlike the very wealthy who took their taxcuts and moved their businesses off-shore.

We would advise Mr McConnell to not waste his breath defending the taxcuts for the millionaires. It is time to stand up for the middle-class for once. We know that is an alien idea to Mr McConnell and his millionaire friends.

If they wish to make this a campaign issue, we welcome the debate. We will stand on the side of 98% of Americans, including the small business people that create the jobs. We stand firm in our support of the repeal of the taxcuts for the millionaires.

2. Exactly, and well said! "... stake a position and stick with it. Do not float out in space waiting
for a position to negotiate on with the Republicans."

5. I really don't know why...
...Democrats would unrec this post??

Perhaps they disagree with the message? Or perhaps they think they can say it better?

Or they simply don't like the messenger, which is OK.

6. I think we have un-dems that sit around doing all the un-recs. Probably paid
republican shills.

14. Maybe it will be addressed in the future?
I don't think you should have to be a member to rec or unrec but I do think you should be established for a short time, perhaps about 100 posts?

17. Something like that... I've also wondered about unrec history. If someone
does nothing but unrec, maybe they are on the wrong site. I've gotten so I just ignore recs/unrecs. I spend most of my time in GD so what rises to the home page doesn't matter to me, maybe just once in awhile I'll go to the home page, but usually I just go to latest. That said, I can see why home page and what rises to the top is important.

18. I agree. It's no big deal.
But if there was a minimal requirement, not much, it might make some people feel better. Personally, I know I've hit a nerve when the unrecs start coming. :-)

7. They need to show some unity and hold firm
You are absolutely right. It is probably what I consider the main disadvantage of the Democratic Congress. They don't seem to have the political courage to stand up and stick to their guns. Of course the Republicans are going to come after you. They will anyway. But America does not want wishy washy politicians who will bargain their principles for a vote.

If only they had done this during health care.

8. Happy to rec though I believe the whole thing should die except the bottom rate
Which would bring the largest percentage increase to those with the very least.

10 to 15% is too much for those hanging by a thread at the bottom of the shitpile.

The rest should be reallocated for more targeted stimulus and investment.

9. I agree with you but...
I don't think it is politically possible in the present economy. They should extend the middle-class tax cuts but not make them permanent. People making $250K per year can afford to pay a little more in taxes, in my opinion.

13. I might modify it a touch
Just take a stand. State clearly what your goals are. You can always leave some room for "discussion" about HOW you're going to achieve them. So the quote is "We are not going to extend the tax cuts for the millionaires. That is just the reality within which the GOP is going to have to work. We'll be glad to discuss the process and other concerns, but the deficit just doesn't allow us the luxury of extending these tax cuts any longer."

19. I saw McConnell on TV news this morning and it was pathetic!
and sickening as well. Who cares about 2% millionaires/Billionaires? Their tax cuts don't help because they were sending jobs oversea, enjoying extra wealth from tax cuts, sitting on it. Why should we carry them? Fuxx them!
