Sarah Palin has apparently graduated from Glenn Beck University

Glenn Beck University apparently has its first graduate. Yesterday Sarah Palin was roundly mocked on Twitter when it was revealed she had told the crowd at her joint 9/11 event with Glenn Beck that the Statue of Liberty was “a warning against” socialist policies.”

“This Statue of Liberty was gifted to us by foreign leaders, really as a warning to us, it was a warning to us to stay unique and to stay exceptional from other countries. Certainly not to go down the path of other countries that adopted socialist policies.”

In Palin’s…I guess ‘defense’ (as in, do you think she came up with this on her own) it bears pointing out that this is not her idea. It is Glenn Beck’s. Leading up to the release of his Overton Window book (which features an altered Statue of Liberty on the cover) Beck spoke frequently about his version of why the French gifted America Lady Liberty, mostly notably during his CPAC address when he went on at length about the history of the Statue of Liberty:

The French didn’t give it to us because it was – oh, look at us, we want to say hello to our friends and give them this enormous statue. What is that? The French did it – and see if you can get your arms around this concept – the French did it to mock, but not us. Europe…The Statue of Liberty was mocking the old system. The Statue of Liberty was used to ignite inside the French, liberty. Look at America. Look what they’re doing.

Which Palin managed to distill down to a warning against “socialist policies.” Alas, Palin neglects to mention which socialist policies existed in Europe in the late nineteenth century, though I have no doubt the answer would prove, for lack of a better word, entertaining at best…it’s probably just a matter of time before she declares Lady Liberty to be the first Mama Grizzly. Clip of Palin’s history lesson below:

What comes to mind is from Alice in Wonderland.
"surly you can't believe that it's imposable"
"Nonsense my dear I make it a practice to believe 10 imposable things before breakfast each morning"
