http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_politics/2010/09/waserman-schultz-do-as-i-say-not-as-i-do.html Democrats this year are running local-oriented campaigns. Republicans are trying to nationalize the elections while vilifying President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
So says South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who is emerging as a top Democratic spokeswoman for her party’s mid-term election campaigns.
“Their job (Republicans) is to nationalize this race and morph every Democratic candidate into the villainization of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. It’s a tired, washed-up strategy,” Wasserman Schultz, a Democrat from Weston, said in a conference call with reporters.
Democratic candidates, she said, “are running local races, with their fingers on the pulse of local communities.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz warned that talk of a government shutdown is not just politics as usual and should be taken seriously, recounting what happened in 1995 and saying that the effect would be worse today with so many Americans out of work and needing assistance:
