Russ Feingold won by big margins in 1992 & 2004, presidential election years, but he only won by three points in 1998, which wasn't a presidential election year.

10. I think you are missing part of the picture there

clearly the key is that I moved out of Wisconsin in the summer of 1998 and was not available to help "the underdog" win big.

But really, I bet Republican turnout looks better in the off years because Wisconsin is majority Democratic. In the off years, party effort can make a difference, and in Presidential years almost everyone turns out.

In that way we are just like the Republicans, dismissing and scoffing at polls with which we disagree or that do not line up with our beliefs and applauding those that do.

9. At this point in a close race it may be better for Feingold to be a little behind.

That might motivate Democrats to get out and vote for him rather than believe he simply cannot lose.

In ads, Feingold is being portrayed as a career politician which the Republicans consider to be bad unless you are a Republican career politician. He is also being denounced for voting mostly with his own party, like Republicans never do that. I think that Feingold votes less with his party than many Democrats might like, but he is honest and votes his conscience.

11. I can't believe people could be so delusional as to prefer a Repub over Feingold.

Who is the best of the best. If he loses, I will have lost all hope in the American people (who are already on thin ice with me anyway). One more nail in the coffin of Democracy.
