The only thing that scares me about Christine O'Donnell's win tonight:
We celebrated when Reagan won the nomination in 1980, because no one would take him seriously.

We celebrated when Bush beat McCain in 2000, because we knew he could never win.

We need to still get out there and work hard for Chris Coons. We need to work even harder than we would have if he were up against Mike Castle.

with a long, respected history for this piece of fluff. No one knows about her, but like Palin, she's 'cute'. Ugh.

17. Castle was elected because we all respected him - Democrats and Sane Republicans alike
I wouldn't vote for the guy because I'm a pure Dem supporter, but I have nothing but good things to say about Mike Castle.

The woman is ape-shit insane. This is Christine O'Donnell:

* No serious work record for over 20 years, mainly freelancing at various conservative think tanks.
* Lied about her Bachelors Degree (when she was caught she finally finished it this year)
* Lied about doing Masters work at Princeton (wait, don't you need a bachelor degree first)
* Lied to her campaign contributors using their donations to pay for her living expenses
* Lied about Castle campaign stalking her.
* Lied about Castle being a homosexual.
* Lied that she was sexually discriminated against by The Weekly Standard (and they released the details just yesterday)
* Lied about Abstinence - she's claims she's a 40 year virgin and yet lives with a man.

She is a LIAR

She is not qualified to be the dogcatcher in our state let alone US Senator.

Mike Castle lost because he didn't take her seriously because no other candidate has ever taken her serious. Chris Coons will not make that mistake!

19. I didn't know much about him, but did know he was a lock
until the baggers went off. That to me is scary. And yep, she's a nutjob. That's what's sad and frightening, that people who might know that voted for her anyway, or people didn't bother to find out and don't care.

24. The media will go berserk building her up as their candidate. Dumbed down voters will
fall for it and go for the "underdog". When I consider all these teabagger candidates, I always think about Sinclair Lewis' novel "It Can't Happen Here". This is not good.

5. Good Point
I mean, here in Florida we have Rick Scott running for governor. No one thought he would beat McCollum for the Republican nomination. Now I don't want to get too comfortable about Alex Sink winning.

that neither Bush nor Reagan had.

9. i don't think Reagan or Bush were ever seen the way Odonell was
also this is only one mostly Dem leaning state. not the whole country.

and we were right to worry about mccain more than Bush in 2000 because McCain of 2000 probably could have won. and it wouldn't have been as close as it was.

with Reagan he was governor of a huge state like California. i don't know why peoplewouln'd take him seriously . i can understand making fun of him but it's not like he had stepped out of movies into run for pres. hwas governor of a major state.

our Candidates in these states and do something to create

15. Exactly
I was checking out daily kos just now...and I was very uncomfortable with the "congrats to Senator Chris Coons" stuff I saw. Christine O'Donnell, even with the crazy stuff, can win this race in November. We can't take this for granted.

When I can, I'll send some money to the Coons campaign.

18. First of all, I don't think people ever thought Bush couldn't win. He was way out ahead in the polls
over Al Gore for a year and a half before he won the nomination. He finished the primaries ahead by a few points, but quickly regained his lead of about 10 points. It stayed that way until the Convention, when Gore pulled ahead (even as the media proclaimed the Convention a failure, a narrative that Lieberman has continued to validate to this day).

O'Donnell is running in a Democratic state. And she's a freak. I don't see this race as a competitive one.

Steve

No way they will elect Bush TWICE!

23. Yep.
Despite her case of teh crazy O'Donnell can be elected. Words and ideas don't really matter if she manages to make a personal connection with voters or gets swept in by a sea change.

Nobody should be overconfident here.

31. Actually I look at it as the moment of reality for this country and for us
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 08:21 AM by lunatica
If the teabaggers win the elections then it's a huge signal to all of us of where this country is really going. At that point we may actually be at the last stage of grief where we accept the situation the way it is and work with what reality is. Personally I'd much rather deal with the truth rather than continue to delude myself about an illusion that was never there. It's painful, but in the long run it's liberating to know the truth.

33. It is Delaware and that state seems to elect moderate, well liked
people to it's major offices. O'Donnell is too out of the mainstream for Delaware. I would say this state is a lot less close then say even CT, where I live.

35. You're right - small enough that people KNOW each other
they elect the guy they know from PTA or who helped their cousin out or who their niece used to baby-sit for. Even if he's not in their party. This is NOT the same as a tea-bag win in PA or FL or CA.

I never discount the stupidity of the electorate (see Reagan and Bush II) but this ain't one of those situations.
