7. There were protests and people were walking out...
these men or one of them have written a book discussing ,how they were former terrorists. In one interview they talked about how many people they have killed one of them said two hundred and something. I guess these are some of the terrorists that bush has let into the country...We are fighting them over there remember...these are suppose to be reformed terrorists I guess they went into rehab...

14. When I went there we hated Mich. State but had more of a friendly rivalry w/OSU.
That was before Uhio State was beating us though.

15. I was there in the days of Bo and Woody.
The rivalry was extremely intense.

My car had a bumper sticker that said, "Save fuel; burn Woody."

In maize letters with a blue background.

How's that for a blast from the past?

19. I was there in 76-81 and it seemed that most people didn't really dislike Ohio State
Of course, back then we had been beating everyone in the Big Ten for several years and it was pretty much everyone hated us and we didn't dislike anyone all that much. Those were the good old days - now we get beat by a lot of people in the Big Ten. It's probably a whole different thing nowadays.

Most people were spending so much time studying that we didn't have the time to hate someone!

I had some reporter from Columbus Ohio interview me when I was a student asking why we weren't having rallys, etc. (it was a Friday before the Mich-Ohio game) and I told him most people were studying and wouldn't have anything until the Saturday before the game. He told me that in Columbus they would be making a big deal out of the game the whole week and having rallys, etc.

He wrote an article with my quotes and made it sound like we were a bunch of eggheads at U of Mich. I guess were sort of were. Back then, Frats and Sororities were scoffed at by most people and sports and the game were secondary to class and homework.

My guess is it's different nowadays.

24. We overlapped in '76-'77.
Everything that you say rings true, except the Ohio State rivalry. Perhaps things changed quickly after I left on that score.

I spent an awful lot of time in the carrels on the fifth floor (green-history) of the grad library.

4. She's talking about a speaking event that occurred last night
on the U of M campus. The speakers were apparently three former terrorists who were speaking out (no longer terrorists) about what the U.S. needs to do, etc. Unfortunately the event was last night (1/30). I missed it, but I saw the fliers up around town.

5. If you Google "Three former terrorists" or "three ex-terrorists"
you'll see who I mean. Apparently these three guys have spoken at other universities too.

They are also apparently controversial, but I didn't read a whole lot on it since I'm at work.

16. It was all over the news this morning, locally (and probably on FOX)
From what I read, the "terrorists" were not active terrorists and they had come to seeing the US side of things.

But you never know with the People's Republic of Ann Arbor.

8. Oh yeah, this is that Shoebat guy.
Claims to have been an Islamic terrorist.

Is in fact a hate monger, spreading Islamophobia. He's a regular David Duke.

11. Shoebat's a regular on Fox news.
They love him for his Islamophobic views.

It was probably Young Republicans that invited him to UofM.

20. egads! The Young Republicans?? That place is going to the dogs...
Back in the day we would have run them off (and the Young Republicans - for that matter).

There would have been a big outcry by the students.

22. All of us Michigan alumni prob are......
You couldn't go anywhere around there without smelling pot. It used to be a $5 fine and the cops didn't really bother with busting anybody for it. They also had the Hash Bash every year and the cops just let it go on. I heard they cracked down on it lately though....

I asked about these terrorists, it was all over the news last night and they seem to think it is a joke. It wasn't a joke to the people who were there last night...
