I just missed a big lightning bust. (DIAL-UP WARNING)
I'm on off days in Bend. The lightning bust hit late yesterday. I'm totally bummed out! I need lightning photos. Instead, I am in Bend taking photos of gardens!

Would you NOT want to eat breakfast here? What a place! It is called "Chow."

The colors are fading, but the garden is still wonderful!

1. Those are stunning, my dear DemoTex!
The sunflowers against that vivid blue sky are wonderful! I wonder if those restaurant folks make their own cornbread?

:hi:

3. Bullshit post!
You didn't tell us what you ate and more importantly you didn't tell us what was in the doggie bag for you know who.
DID YOU NOT KNOW THAT YOU CAN'T POST UPDATES OF YOUR ADVENTURES WITHOUT A NICK UPDATE.
C'mon, be reasonable.

Great pics DT and that looks like one kick ass breakfast joint.
Reminds me of a place I ate at in Vail back in the 80's.
I still remember that meal!

4. Lovely garden photos, though.
I was thinking you might post lightning pics taken from the tower. Some kind of storm that was--hope you didn't get caught in the hail assaulting Sunriver. There are some pretty cool lightning photos from around the area posted on the KTVZ website, in case you haven't checked them out.

5. Bend is one of my favorite towns in the world. It sure has become
overrun. Driving is a nightmare.

6. The lightning didn't miss us last week - it got at least one tree
THis may have been the same day as your post. Fortunately, it was one of our many post oaks so even when it dies, it will not be a problem.

The pictures are horrible - taking a digital camera from air conditioning to post storm Florida steaminess does not make for good pictures, even when it does not generate enough humidity in the body of the camera to cause error messages.

Mr. csziggy inspecting the tree - the damage goes much higher up the branch to the left in the picture, and down into the ground to the left. There are pieces of the tree and the vines that are scattered across the sandy area in this shot, but pieces were blown more than 100 feet from the tree. The largest piece of wood was about three feet long, but did not look like wood. It was more separated into fibers and seemed oddly ropey.

A close up of the scar in the tree - to the left the ground was churned up from below. You can see some burn marks in the truck of the tree and how the lightning followed the root into the ground.

We got about two inches or more of rain in that one hour rainstorm. Multiple lightning strikes very close. Lots of wind.
