"14 Military Members Convicted in 'Historic' Ruling" -- About Operation Condor and Letelier
If Operation Condor and Orlando Letelier are names you have not heard, do some research. If you don't know about the history around them, you don't know US history at all. No blame, you either lived through the events and saw a few small headlines and did the digging, or you didn't. Just another part of the hidden history of the US.

Start here or anywhere. you might prefer:

The verdict handed down by Judge Alejandro Madrid found that Berríos was kidnapped and killed by active duty members of the Chilean and Uruguayan armed forces in one of the last episodes of Operation Condor.

Operation Condor was a coordinated plan among the military governments that ruled Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay in the 1970s and 1980s, aimed at tracking down, capturing, torturing and eliminating left-wing opponents, with the tacit approval of the United States.

The unique thing about the murder of Berríos was that it was committed after both Uruguay and Chile had returned to democracy, and while Pinochet -- who died in 2006 -- was still army chief.
...
The aim of the military intelligence operation was to keep Berríos from testifying in the trial for the assassination of former Chilean foreign minister Orlando Letelier, who was killed by a car bomb in 1976 in Washington, D.C. Letelier was foreign minister for leftwing president Salvador Allende (1970-1973), who Pinochet overthrew in the coup.

1. So we're still feeling the blast waves all these years later . . .
Now if only Orlando Bosch could be fed through the gears of justice . . .

2. And, for those who also don't know that history, he was one of ther US's most loved and protected
airplane bombers. Took out a sports team in a way that makes the Olympics killings of Israeli athletes by Black September look like amateur hour.

3. Bosch is a piece of shit mass murderer
He is just another VERY VISIBLE example of the death, evil and misery that are the coat of arms for the Bush family. What is truly depressing is that the Obama Admin has done nothing to Bosch and likely never will. America is a place where the rule of law only applies to some.

6. Protected by every US admin, from his mass murdering days until today.
Allowed to travel freely, detained briefly, and never prosecuted. No surprise. Those who mass murder innocents like the CIA and its agents and the whole US military apparatus are loyal to and acting on behalf the ruling powers that be. And nothing they do will be punished or even criticized or mentioned more than once by the corporate entities that run the state and media and etc.

4. I think it's interesting to consider condor as one wing of a global operation which included

the italian strategy of tension, gladio, some of the US bombings/actions attributed to "the left," similar phenomenon in turkey & elsewhere in europe, & various assassinations of political figures, e.g. aldo moro

the aim of all = kill or discredit leftists and shift political/economic winds to the right -- in conjunction with other political developments, i.e. the rightward moves (neocon, neolib) in the us & uk.

there are enough links between key figures to make this a viable hypothesis -- that at some level there was coordination.

i've always wondered about the symbionese liberation army. something about that whole patty hearst thing always seemed phony to me.

8. Me too re: SLA and the others you mention.
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 04:40 AM by ConsAreLiars
There are well-intended but naive and ignorant people who get played by cons every day, and those with good political goals are not immune to being manipulated. Then (and now) there were (are) several agencies doing all they could (can) to misdirect and discredit and destroy the pro-peace and justice organizations. No limits. Including murdering those that threaten the powers that (still) be. Any who wonder about this being common practice here as well as abroad might want to read a bit of the history of the BPP - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Panther_Party

Just a hint at the larger picture, for those who want a hint and more.

(edit out accidental key press)

11. George Herbert Walker Bush pretended not to know anything re CONDOR.
Poppy’s CIA warned about terror plots and did not stop them.

Judge Alejandro Madrid helped return Justice to Chile. May Justice soon return to the United States.
