It's an ongoing American phenomenon.

It like straight people who think it's their God-given duty to tell gays how to have sex.

Or men who have the right to tell women what they can do with their bodies.

It goes on and on and on.

Someone just needs to tell these self-righteous assholes to just shut the fuck up.

2. it's all part of controlling people. and sex is a way to do that.
it's like saying that women are supposed to be the brakes, thus it is a woman's fault if she has sex or gets raped or gets pregnant by their father. or saying that you can only have sex if you are married and having kids. as for abortion..... again, controlling women. men can't have babies. they can only impregnate women.

12. The fact that it's so often tied into religion and morality gives TPTB
even more opportunities to gain control of people's lives.

3. Shame.
They keep that power because deep down, we know that sex is dirty. To avoid the subject, we'll go so far as to cede authority to any organization that gives us cover by saying, "Naughty!"

4. It's like alcohol sales on Sunday.
Some people feel that the puritanical restrictions they place on themselves are also appropriate for everyone else.

6. I had a loud and nasty argument with a priest one time about birth
control. It was not pretty and I've eyed the church ever since very dubiously...

7. Ask the Catholics. They've been doing it for centuries.
One of my closest friends is a former priest who resigned from the priesthood for this very reason. He simply could not handle the disconnect.

He is now a happily married agnostic with three children and several grandchildren.

10. Your subject line describes everyone with authority in the Catholic Church.
Many who are religious seem to categorize sex as conduct which is either dirty, sinful or less than admirable. One doesn't usually find that attitude among the non religious.

The more rigid one's religion, the more rigid one's view of sexual conduct, generally speaking.

11. Indications Of Her Own Issues...
I've met my share of religious nuts...the abstinence only and "holier than thous" and one thing that has alway struck me is not only how uncomfortable they are in discussing such a natural thing as sex that it indicates some bad experience or repression in their lives that manifest in this type of "purity".

Not sure what it is...sexually abused (and this could be verbally) when she was younger? Something just isn't right here. Even the old "responsible sex" mantra encouraged "self gratification"...I'll never forget when Ann Landers showed up at my High School and told an auditorium of hormonally challenged males to "take matters in hand".

The religious right feels its their place to dictate morality for all in an effort to keep "women in their place" and to use sex as a political weapon. It's just plain unnatural and methinks we may just find out more about Ms. O'Donnell's life than most of us care to.

As someone else said..."she's so far in the closet, she can see Narnia"...
