He probably realizes that his best path is to lay low and for this craze to pass. The party structure understands what's going on and is going to do its level best not to self distruct over this one race. Let her run, let her lose, and move on.

4. Is there any chance of going back to his old House seat?

The party establishment in DE seems to love the guy and his old House seat is one of only 3-4 that look likely to switch. They may convince their House candidate to get out of the way for him. (In which case he would be unlikely to endorse the Democrat in the Senate race).

He doesn't need to endorse the dem. His voters will do that anyway.

After all, he's spent his life in one party. Even though he's watching that party spiral into insanity, it's still his life's work.

While he might not endorse that insanity, he's not going to endorse people he's spent his lifetime opposing, either.
