My letter I just sent to Mike Castle....
Dear Rep Castle:

I have never voted for you. I'm a lifelong democrat who consistently pulls the "D" lever in the November election and have done so the 9 years I have lived in Delaware.

I was glad to live in a state with democrats but I always knew that even if we couldn't win the house seat against you we still had a decent representative in congress. For a republican, you were one of the good guys in DC.

I just want you to know that I feel awful for what happened yesterday with the primaries. 30k right-wing extremists in Delaware made a choice for our state that was just wrong. Although I'm ecstatic that my choice, Chris Coons, will probably become senator, I'm saddened to see how you were treated. You are an honorable person and Delawareans deserve better candidates than crazies like Christine O'Donnell.

I write this to ask you of one thing - please do NOT endorse O'Donnell. I respect the fact that you would not endorse Coons either but the last thing that Delaware needs is an unstable lunatic as our senator. O'Donnell has absolutely no work history, a history of bad debts and personally I think she forgot that "Thou shall not Lie" is part of those 10 Commandments she talks about. I would respect an endorsement if this was a sane person, but Christine O'Donnell is not. Wouldn't it be better to just let the Dems keep the seat and find a better candidate to run against Coons in 2014?.

Thank you for all of your years of service. You have taken good care of the state of Delaware and hope this is not the last that we will see of you. It was an honor to have you represent me in DC and I have never EVER said that of any other republican ever!

I would have asked him to endorce Coons.

The Republican Party did nothing to help him.

15. Republican Party spent big money against O'Donnell
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 09:40 AM by SteveG
The State party and the NRSC did spend considerable resources trying to stop her. The problem is that the the Social Conservatives in Southern DE control the party organizations there, and cater to the crazy. From what has been said both publicly and privately, the national and state parties will not lift a finger to support O'Donnell. She will have to be financed totally by the national Tea Parties. In her last last financial report, she had only 8 in state donors who gave more than $200 to her campaign, the vast majority of her funding has come from out of state.

4. That was a very thoughtful letter.
My only knowledge of Castle was through his hilarious interviews with Stephen Colbert. He seems like a really decent man.

8. Nice letter. Kudos to you--very classy and heartfelt!
I read a DU post last night saying Castle has declined to endorse O'D, and hope he will give Coons his support. I wish our First State well. You deserve much, much more than O'D. She is flat unbelievable. But then so are the teapartiers. Words are starting to fail me. She will doubtless go after Coons similar to what she did Castle. Rally the troops!

Blessings.

18. Great letter Lynne! I was thinking the same thing myself.
I think if he did support Coons, that it would just fan the fire of Repubs and throw more to O'Donnell, so I hope he doesn't do that (but I'm sure he'd like to after dealing with her). Delaware has always had relatively civil political discourse. I think that's over with now.

I was reading someone's suggestion that Obama should appoint Castle to a spot, somewhere that he has really shined and supported in the past. I think that's a great idea.
