I just GOT IT.
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 10:29 AM by WingDinger
The reason why the teabagger types are such haters of public pensions, unions, entitlements, is many if not most are small business owners. They get no unemployment, and are on the hook more for their SS payments than others. Therefore they begrudge us all our choices that arent theirs.

The teabag win, has all the neocons salivating about now it is a skip and a jump to ending SS, medicare and medical. Welfare and any other tattered remains of a safety net. Then, we will all be even.

Now, small business owners want what amounts to a small business safety net, at the expense of all the rest of us.

5. There is some problems with big corporations writing some legislation in there favor.

But the fix is not to get rid of government but to detach it from the corporations.

If you get rid of government you only remove all rules, and then things get worse. It would be law of the jungle. Anarchy, or worse, a few setting rules without popular consent.

tea baggers don't want others receiving any help from the government because they are greedy and don't want to have to pay any taxes at all. They want what they have saved under their mattresses and they want to shoot people who come on to their property to tell them their house is on fire.

they are batshit crazy. period.

any questions?

I would be surprised if they are really small business owners. Maybe they are more likely to be someone who partakes in a MLM scheme or stock market day-trading.

While the self-employed do not get unemployment (at least here), our SS rates are the same. We just need to pay both the employer half and the employee half since we operate in both roles.

They are getting Medicare and social security payments. Even during the HCR fight they said to leave their Medicare alone.

I don't see boomer teabaggers going for the end of social security and Medicare.

13. We're small business owners and we don't feel that way.
The reason you're confused is because Fox and the Republicans (and some of the Blue Dogs) keep saying 'small business' when they mean 'wealthy corporate behemoths.' Take a look at the HCR debate. When discussing protecting small business, one bill defined it as businesses with payrolls of less than $500,000. Sweeties, that's not 'small.'

14. You're right to a degree but wrong too
And we generalise, mock and project at our peril.

My partner has nearly always been self-employed. We pay an extra 8% self-employment tax. And nearly $900 a month for health insurance for high deductible taxes. Partner's income varies quite a bit and we can't save for the future AND pay health insurance AND keep up with taxes.

Where you're wrong is that nobody who is struggling and self-employed wants to end the S.S and the safety net programs.

People who are struggling to support themselves wanted a better health care reform bill, possibly including Medicare for all.

I am self-employed and have not been struggling (knock on wood). However, I fully support SS and safety net programs. I also pay nearly $900 a month for a high deductible HSA account and was really hoping the health care reform would have helped. So just keep in mind that there are people who are not struggling to support themselves who wanted a better health care reform bill, including a public option/Medicare for all.

and medicare and give it to the Black people in the form of reparations. This is basically what Glenn Beck has told them and this is what the 9/12 movement is all about.

Socialism = Reparations for blacks.

They're are, for the most part, gullible self-absorbed bigots who are "ascared" of anyone different from them. They are prime targets for the Becks of the world.

The joke is on them because the party they are supporting is more likely to take both their SS and medicare away.

24. Meanwhile
small business owners face business risk, business practices that penalize them (e.g., volume discounting), tax codes that often benefit their larger competitors, often uninsurable health care risk, and higher social security costs. Not to mention consumers that prefer the standardization and branding of big box stores - or are so ignorant that they cannot distinguish between value and price (and thus prefer to buy imported crap).

For many small business owners their business represents their single largest asset. If their business goes bust then most don't qualify for unemployment benefits. And they just might get to spend many many years paying off various financial obligations.

You seem to assume that all small business owners had other viable employment options. That is not necessarily true. Especially if the business owner resides in a sparsely populated area, is an older worker, or is highly educated/trained and has specialized skills. You've obviously never had the experience of having head hunters suggest that perhaps self-employment through a small business venture just might be a better option than job hunting. It happens.

We live in a nation that is too stupid to value small business. We'd much prefer that everyone fit into some neat little corporate machine. And if they don't then we'd like to think they they are somehow defective or that they have problems with authority and taking directions from others.

Most small business owners are just trying to earn a livlihood. They're not getting filthy rich and likely never will. And you're abso-fucking-lutely right. There is no safety net for small business owners. But many of them damn sure pay the cost to provide one (unemployment insurance) for their employees.

Not defending teabaggers. Just pointing out that the proverbial deck that is stacked against small business owners.

My point was that small business owners face overwhelming odds and mostly just want to earn a livlihood.

Your point was that small business wants something at your expense - a premise I disagree with based on my rather extensive experience counseling small businesses.

28. I hope you didn't spend a lot of time developing this idea.
As a small business owner I find your thought offensive. Feel free to have it. I will continue to pay Social Security payments times two, unemployment taxes for which I will never be able to collect and income taxes. I am surprised that you didn't add that these people have time to picket because they work for themselves and can take all of the free time off they want. For your information small business are what is floating this country right now.

Your comment 'Therefore they begrudge us all our choices that aren't theirs.' is too funny. What did you mean to say there aside form acknowledging that small business pays for benefits that you can receive?

As far as the tea baggers go, I think that they are largely people who live off of SS, medicare and medicaid and suck up the benefits that small businesses provide. People who live in the world of FOX and believe that their Bibles are in danger of being hijacked.
