Mass. charges being dropped in Craigslist killing

Associated Press - September 15, 2010 1:45 PM ET

BOSTON (AP) - On the same day prosecutors formally drop the charges against a man who committed suicide after being charged in the killing of a masseuse he met through Craigslist, the slain woman will be honored with a memorial stone in a Boston garden commemorating homicide victims.

Philip Markoff, a former Boston University medical student, was found dead in his jail cell last month. He was awaiting trial in the 2009 killing of Julissa Brisman of New York City.

Brisman was beaten with a gun and shot three times at a Boston hotel. She was 1 of 3 women Markoff was accused of robbing or attacking after meeting them through Craigslist.

On Thursday, Boston prosecutors will withdraw the charges against Markoff because of his death.

2. It may sound cold, but the police did have to goods on this guy?
So he did the tax base a favor. Trials and Appeals cost the state large amounts of $$$$. Does Mass have death penalty? I don't remember.
