If they were opposed to them in 2001, why wouldn't they be opposed to them now. They must of had a reason other than it being a Republican Bill. Those Tax cuts had to be done with reconcilliation because Democrats were blocking them. What has changed other than Obama being in the Whitehouse now? If they were bad for America back then, and all evidence proves they were, why would they not be bad for America now? How do the Democrats explain their flip flop on this? I would think after all the evidence of how they caused huge Deficits and Debt has been layed out there, their initial instincts were correct..I don't get it...They seem almost asking for the Republicans to push them around..

1. Not all, but you can bet there will be some who will. The argument they will use will
be that you don't increase taxes during a depression, of course they will spew the repuke talking point, when the FACT is taxes for EVERYONE will be reduced up to 250K, and the amount above 250K will be taxed at a higher rate

I saw someone on bloomberg arguing how tough it is for those who make 250K and above a year especially if you live in NYC

I am sorry, but I just don't have that kind of sympathey for those who make 250K a year that I do for those who make 50K a year and have 2 kids to raise

How out of touch are we, or better yet, how stupid are the people to believe that

2. Big difference if it's just for middle class

IIRC (and for me personally too FWIW) the initial objection was only due to the enormous slanting of dollar benefits towards those who already have enough income to meet all needs. Giving them more income is unlikely to spur demand except in a few cases. Tax cuts are by no means evil ad do indeed spur demand if they are concentrated on those who lack the income currently to meet their needs. The lower the income the more unmet needs. I am by no means Bill Gates but all I would do with an extra couple thousand a year is save it/invest it. Since I already can and do save a fair amount of my income, it's obvious my unmet needs/wants are at a level far higher than tax cuts could take me. Sure I'd like to drive a Tesla instead of an Altima, but a tax cut isn't going to move me into being able to without spending way more of my money on a car than I should like to. Not an undesirable thing in some ways, but unlikely to jumpstart employment and the economy. Give a guy who's driving a 15yr old beater because he can't make payments on a new car that $2000 and he goes and makes a downpayment maybe.

3. Hmm I remember it quite differently than you.
I remember Democrats talking about paying down debt and that tax cuts would eliminate that. Bush* came back and said since there was such a large surplus the people should get their money back. He kept saying again and again "It's your money not the Governments" Nobody was complaining about paying too much in taxes at that time..Clinton had already reduced taxes for the middle class from what they were under Reagan and Bush 1 and increased taxes for those earning more than $300,000. a year. During Bush 1 Administration Bush 1 had to break his "Read my Lips, no new taxes" Promise because America was spiraling out of control and the Deficit was exploding...Bush 1 understood the need for a tax increase even though He had campaigned against it...Bush* did not understand that at all, but Democrats did and fought his tax cuts tooth and nail..Why has that suddenly been lost on them? If there was a reason under Bush 1 to raise taxes, when our financial situation was no where near as severe as it is now, why is that not the case now?
