DNC drops Obama's promise to repeal DOMA, fails to mention marriage, then gets all weasely on DADT
Really, DNC, I am completely losing interest. And my donations this year are "sensible" too. FAIL, DNC.

=====

via Americablog: The DNC has a new Web site up. Included is a page devoted to "civil rights." Here are the gay civil rights promises the party is now making us:

- Enacting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which includes measures prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity;
- Ensuring full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples;
- Repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security

First off, what happened to repealing DOMA? I do believe our fierce advocate mentioned it repeatedly during the campaign. Why is it gone now? Are there no gay people advising the DNC, or did they just throw out one of the President's top three promises to our community?

Second, "civil unions"? How very 1999 of you.

Third, there's that ending DADT in a "sensible way" language again. What the hell does that mean? You either end it or you don't. And were the Democrats ever thinking of ending it in a non-sensible way? It sounds like a weasel word, and it's one the White House got caught using a year ago. Why do the party leaders keep using this language that implies something short of an outright and full repeal of DADT?

3. DADT was just declared unconstitutional. So our party pledges to end it "sensibly".
Betraying bunch of gameplayers.

10. DADT is still on the chopping block
The plan, as I understand it, was to get DADT repealed and then proceed to implement new policies/regulations in accordance with the review they are conducting. If it means anything, the military brass isn't happy about the House/Senate voting to repeal it now but nobody's stopping Reid from moving forward on it next week.

Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 05:50 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
That phrase really makes me want to vomit. :puke:

What a bunch of political cowards they are. Let's face it -- they are going to play games as long as possible on this matter. Americans are going to have to demand their rights, by whatever means neccessary.

6. Did you see this?
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/17338/gibbs-president-willing-to-veto-defauth-wdadt-repeal-dream-act-over-fighter-jet-engine

Christ, it makes me wonder why the fuck I even bothered phoning not only my senators, but senators on the Armed Service Committee this past summer. Yes, I called Scott Brown's office. Yes, I called Evan Bayh's office. Just to do my bit because this disgusting, odious condoning of bigotry and just plain piece of shit law (honestly, I think DADT, along with DOMA, are 2 of the worst pieces of legislation ever passed in the history of the United States Congress) needs to be fucking repealed NOW.

And now...the damn thing, which even Carl Levin says won't really repeal DADT, might get thrown in the trash anyway.

I watched "Countdown" and "The Rachel Maddow Show" and saw little Miss Anti-Masturbation win the GOP nomination for United States Senator from Delaware. Those people in the GOP are crazy. Batshit insane. They need to be gone. This is where the...um...enthusiasm for the party you've supported all your life comes in. And then I read...this. It's hard, dammit, Bluebear. It's damned hard reading this stuff.

8. Tim Kaine is a huge religious bigot,.
So are several others in leadership positions at the DNC. They agree with the Tea Party on equality issues, and they share the same dogmatic, improvised, lineage free Evangelical 'Christianity'. They think Newt Gingrich is in a Sanctified and Holy Union made by God Himself, and that Rachel Maddow and her partner are just strangers with sin issues.

11. You have to seriously wonder if they actually *want* control of Congress
Couple this with the Elizabeth Warren fiasco and it seems they're doing everything possible to further demoralize the base right before an election.

Even though the logo stinks, it's all we should expect, eh? I mean that's it right before the mid-terms, right?

13. Isn't that special?
Dear DNC. I'll be voting and spending my gay money in a sensible way.

No more "lesser of two evils". No more votes or money to people who obviously don't give a damn, but merely strive to be marginally less sucky than the Republicans. You want my votes and my money you have to be in tune with my values. I will no longer allow me and mine to be sacrificed on the altar of political expediency, Three-dimensional chess, or whatever you want to call it.

Sincerely,
NMMNG

19. Biden said on Rachel tonite that he really believes they have the votes to end DADT...that they were
going to tack it on to the defense spending bill. If Repugs vote against that, they will be voting against our troops. Biden then said the repugs will try and pass an amendment to take it out of the bill, but they have enough votes...so says Biden.

Hope that you saw the interview.

Forget Kaine - he is turning out to be worthless as a leader.

I have never been able to understand this two tiered citizenship, and I don't understand why Dems seem to be ceding ground on this to repubs. Olsen (along with Bois (sp?) arguing to smash Prop H8, Mehlman finally stepped forth, the McCain women speaking out for what 8 months to a year now, and survey after survey show that the young'uns don't have the same hangups...seems as though the Dems would be more forceful now.:shrug:

I just don't get it.

Ooops, spoke too soon, it's 0 now.

It's awesome. Well, maybe not awesome, but good. Well, maybe not good, but not especially offensive. Well maybe not especially offensive but not heinous. It's branding, you know, like branding on the ass of a donkey.

And the further we dig into this mess of a new website, well, it's shit, piled higher and deeper. I just hope they have a low level intern lined up to be fired for this.

This party needs to stand for something with regard to GLBT rights or fall for everything. Looks like they have chosen the "prevent defense" which will ultimately prevent them from winning.
