The Death of the GOP ... and how you can help.
The GOP lost big in 2006 and 2008. They lost so big that the GOP had to build its own Frankenstein's monster (the Tea Party) to rally its INSANE base.

But their monster has escaped, as the monster is like to do. And it now tries to consume them and us.

So what do WE on the left do.

We need to elect every DEM we can elect.

If the GOP and the Tea Party LOSES seats, they will kill each other via blame.

I think that is our STRATEGIC plan ... protect the dems, and make the tea party and the established GOP fight each other as to who on their side is to blame.

2. Wasn't it posted here after Obama's election that the GOP was dead?
There was a lot of dancing on its grave. Evidently the GOP does not die easily. Even now it would be foolish to treat it lightly. I really doubt it will ever be truly dead.

5. It was a ridiculous statement and some people never learn from history
There have been any # of times in the past when Repubs have claimed the Democratic party is dead, and vice versa.

There has never been a time when it was true.

4. I don't want them dead-- then it would be up to just us to fuck things up...
like any other one-party state.

I want them to be reasonably alive and slightly to the right-- like they were until Reagan.

It was Nixon that caused all this. When he resigned the national Republican party was bankrupt and couldn't even pay the rent on their DC headquarters. Then they came back, but the impetus wasn't from the Rockefellers and Lodges who were pushed aside, it was from the far right and the Reaganites.

My family was Republican going back to Lincoln, but Eisenhower was the last one they could fully support. I'm one of the few who fully broke off and came over to the dark side, but the rest aren't happy with what the Republicans have become.

13. The Republican Party will fragment. It is a matter of when not if. The GOP embrace of the Tea Party
is accelerating the process. They are doomed as a national political force. Their path back to relevancy would have been the Big Tent approach, building a coalition between reasonable conservatives and moderates. Instead they chose to go all in with the lunatic Right, and there is no way back.

14. Agreed, any short term gains will be offset by long term disasters.
Imagine every tea bagger wins. Now imagine them all sitting with hands clasped on their laps listening intently to the Orange Man and Mitch the Turtle telling them how they are to vote on every bill brought before congress. Can't do it can you? It ain't going to happen. The halls of congress will be filled with tricorner hats, poorly written signs and guns - yes - lots and lots of guns. Beautiful. Oh yeah, there will be one more thing, gridlock. If you think the congress has been ineffective this year, just wait till the republicans start eating their young. When they are done the republican party will be a footnote history.

It's going to be awesome.
