My ltte on Tax Cuts, unemployment and war printed today
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 07:00 PM by w8liftinglady
(Next time,I'll wait a little longer before sending-swamp rat gave me some good advice)

http://www.thedailylight.com/articles/2010/09/15/opinion/doc4c90dac457025205740001.txt

I have read with sad curiosity comments by elected officials on renewal of the Tax Relief Bills of 2001 and 2003. Before making a decision on this, we ” as those the elected officials supposedly represent-must educate ourselves on the circumstances and results.

The Tax Cut of 2001 (Economic Growth and Tax Reconciliation Act) was intended to relieve the Recession of 2001 by stimulating spending and encouraging saving. It favored largely those making over $200,000/year and resulted in a $1.75 trillion tax cut. Shortly after passage, the tragedy of 9/11 occurred and the needs of the nation dramatically changed. Wars were declared in Iraq and Afghanistan. At that point, the bill should have been repealed. Instead, The Tax Relief Bill of 2003 was passed, again favoring those making over $200,000/year. It was estimated to be a $500 billion tax cut.

To date, the cost of War in Iraq and Afghanistan has been $1.079 trillion. This does not count the Veterans Administration costs. The war in Afghanistan is escalating and the “war” in Iraq has stabilized with “only” 50,000 troops assigned. It’s not all bad news, though. Corporations are making a killing (no pun intended) thanks to our troops.

Since 2001,the U.S. has lost 5.5 million manufacturing jobs. Since 2001, over 42,400 factories have closed in the U.S., and another 90,000 are considered at severe risk of closing. The reason behind this is drastically increased outsourcing of American jobs to other countries. More and more “white-collar” employees are beginning to see their jobs outsourced as well. At the same time, CEOs of these same companies have seen their salaries rise and tax rates lower.

These are two examples of how the “tax cuts” have benefited Americans. Ninety-eight percent of Americans are in dire straits. Two percent of Americans are doing great. As we enter a new decade of war, do you want to see reduced tax breaks for the top two percent continue? As employment worsens, do you want to see America devolve into a third-world nation? Support continuation of these tax breaks and you may take credit for the unraveling of America as we knew it. Thanks a lot.

6. No... YOU are awesome!
Watching you deteriorate was brutal... it truly was. When I learned of your medical issue, my heart went out to you and my hopes were so high... but I was reserved and not wanting to get hopes up... mine or yours. When the healing began, I was so happy for you! Now... pft! You are super woman!

Oh... I have little happy tears!

It makes me feel good that my comment made you feel good. I know you must have been through hell... all your efforts are paying off!!

Keep taking care of yourself!

And by all means, keep writing!!

LETTER: ‘Optimism for freedom’
Published: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 11:08 AM CDT
To the Editor,

Optimism is always proper for lovers of freedom! This is true, even though it goes against recurrent political realities, from time to time. The importance of optimism is based upon the fact that the tide can always turn for the good in this country. Yes, there are a multitude of obstacles to freedom built into our society, including a press corps which often might as well be employed by the Democratic National Committee, a perpetual craving in human nature for a government solution to virtually any problem that man encounters, and the demonization of citizens who are outspoken conservatives or constitutionalists.

An interesting case in point is the fact that the 90 percent of media reporters who are essentially liberal Democrats are persuaded that Fox News is a “conservative” broadcasting company. This is largely a myth, but Democrats seem to believe it wholeheartedly. It is true that millions of citizens believe that Fox gives them better reporting than the other nationally syndicated networks. Also, it is true that large numbers of self-identified conservatives prefer Fox. But, the absence of lockstep addiction to the ultra-secular and hard left spin on the news is not the same as advocacy for the views held by small government conservatives, libertarians and others who disagree with liberal elitism. Fox is not really that conservative, but most conservatives do see it as not forcing a liberal spin, as others do.

The tide can always turn for the better in America, as long as the First Amendment is effectively intact. Americans are overwhelmingly a people who want to do right by their families and neighbors. So, it always proper for lovers of freedom to hope for a fair hearing among fellow citizens, even though lovers of big government slavery have the built-in advantage. In spite of the many major obstacles to the advance of freedom, optimism is deserved for America. In spite of the hateful and arbitrary roadblocks to the restoration of government to its constitutional size and functions, and the enormous media advantages possessed by the ultra-secular left, truth is worth the struggle! Optimism is always proper for lovers of freedom!

Waxahachie
