Eyes on the Ball...Here's My Elizabeth Warren Questions:
Does she get a budget?

Does she get to hire staff?

Does she get to force the banks to obey consumer protection policies?

--- or ----

Will she write a extensive list of recommendations that Geithner as head of Treasury may or may not implement?

Titles are meaningless. So far, I don't think we have the answers to these questions. That's what I'll want to have clarified in the coming days and weeks.

1. Thank you for at least keeping an open mind.
I remember talking to someone here at DU who was opposed to her being as the agency head because that actually takes someone who is a very effective critic off the board.

This could actually wind up being a lot better than being the person who has to run the agency on a daily basis.

Or it could not.

3. Don't you think Warren HERSELF asked those questions?

Don't you think she's smart and savvy enough to know what she's getting into before she accepts?

Why don't you give her more credit than that?

4. No sure she knows yet. My guess is that she was given just enough assurances....
to get her to say "Yes". How it all plays out is still probably pretty fluid.

5. My bet is that she's smart enough to know the pitfalls here, but decided to
at least try. She DOES have a secure place at Harvard to fall back on "just in case."

I think she just said, "well, why not?" She's a smart person. She may figure that she does have an opportunity to do some good. And if she gets screwed in this job, she has a HUGE whistle to blow!

7. Perhaps part of the deal is to NOT blow the whistle until after midterms?
Just a guess....

8. Could be. I hope not, but it's possible...it would explain Chris Dodd's actions pretty well. nt

6. Excellent Points. Will she be "window dressing"
with only the ability to tinker around the edges before the "Real Head of the Consumer Agency is picked" or will she have the power to be effective.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be some "half a loaf" effort to get her supporters energized for the Mid-Terms.

9. So... you're saying that Elizabeth Warren would quit her job at Harvard in order to be a sell-out?

Seriously... give her more credit than that.

You claim that she's awesome... how about being consistent.
