September 13, 2010 (Bonita) – “Thank you, thank you!” Luz Maria Villanueva’s voice was choked with emotion at a rally on her front lawn organized by Congressman Bob Filner (D-San Diego). Nearly 100 people turned out at 5:30 a.m. for a candlelight vigil to protest Union Bank’s announced plan to have the Sheriff’s department take Villanueva’s Bonita home. She has pleaded for a reprieve at least until her young son, who has cancer, completes chemotherapy treatments.

“We’re going to stand together to change America,” said Rep. Filner. “We have a president who talked about hope. We have to give him strength. The banks have taken over both parties.” He called for changes in the law to protect those victimized by predatory lending practices.

The rally drew widespread media attention; at least three major TV stations as well as print and online media reporters were on hand to cover the event.

4. How Main Street Has Destroyed Wall Street

I guess now would be a good time to shoot the greedy homeowners.

It’s crystal clear. From the very beginning the homeowners have gamed the system. They started by tricking the property appraiser (lender’s agent) into submitting an outcome-based appraisal.

Then, millions of homeowners shrewdly conned the “lenders” into dismissing all agency and fiduciary responsibility in the underwriting process….going so far as to force the “lenders” into forging documents.

Then, the greedy homeowners forced the “lenders” to securitize the loan in such a fashion as to bifurcate the mortgage from the note.

On top of that, the homeowners secretly cooked up the concept of “Credit Default Swaps” and forced the “lenders” to insure the collateral at the full (outcome based) value 30X over.

Having successfully pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes – these irresponsible homeowners showered themselves with well deserved bonuses.

Realizing they were too big to fail, these irresponsible, reckless homeowners lined the pockets of legislators and received enormous sums of taxpayer bailouts.

The result of these cunning maneuvers by the fraudulent homeowner scheme has them sitting fat and happy in the cat birds seat. Yup, that’s how they did it. And they’re getting away with it.

Savings drained – check, 401ks all gone – check. Kicked out of their homes – check. “Lenders” made whole many times over via Credit Default Swaps – check. Homeowners foreclosed and “lender” buys back property for pennies on the dollar – check.

Follow the money and you’ll find the culprit. It’s about time we hold these homeowners accountable.

Which was to talk lending institutions into paying commission to mortgage brokers based on the amount of the loan, rather than on the loan's long-term viability. Probably in order to grease the wheels.

I wouldn't be surprised if the borrowers forced the mortgage brokers to live extravagantly on the money they were making from these deals.

25. Yes..and what I hate is...

...the talk about what we are going to do to make sure this doesn't happen again. Stop right there. Not only do we NOT want this to happen again but we want to disgorge profits that were made illegally. Right now, one side of a bad contract was bailed out at taxpayer expense. And it just so happens that those who designed the contracts received the bailout on TOP of the illegal, obscene profits. All the "take-out" happened already. The "take-out" was pretty big - to the point where we can say the bulk of our collective financial sclerosis stems directly from it. Now it's our duty as Americans to fight like hell to get it back.

Since "securitization" came along - "Lenders" actually profit more on a non-performing loan than a performing loan. Huh?

Something is wrong with this picture.

The PR campaign by the "lenders" has us all fighting amongst each other over non-issues.

Reset the principle on ALL mortgages - in default or not - and let the banksters stuff the deficiency right up their TARP funds which should be accelerated and payable immediately.

Furthermore, if a borrower is found in violation of the law in the act of borrowing they should be held accountable to the law.

Similarly, if a "lender" is found in violation of the law in the act of lending they too should be held accountable to the law.

The local news station reports that the foreclosure was called off Friday -- and the congressman knew it. but decided to go ahead with the rally anyway. So while this was certainly a nice thing to do, he didn't stop the foreclosure and thus wasn't risking arrest.

Political Protest in the Desert Southwest

Yuma, AZ Sept. 14 - Dozens of angry protestors gathered outside Congressman Bob Filner's office at the Imperial Valley Airport this morning.

The protestors say they aren't happy with the congressman or his political choices. Protestors say, they aren't going anywhere until they have answers to a variety of political issues. They say, those issues include healthcare, unemployment, immigration and Filner's failure to protect children from pornography with a kid friendly internet.

In addition to their concerns, they say they're unhappy because Filner won't set a date to debate with opponent Nick Popaditch. They say the congressman agrees to it in public but nothing ever comes of it.

Protestor, John Hawk said "we want to know why Bob won't debate, why he wont come out and see us. Why he won't speak." Another protestor, Don Floyd says, he doesn't care if he debates or not, he just want him to talk to the people.

KSWT tried to contact Filner this morning, but he was unavailable to comment. Protestors plan to stand outside Filner's office every Tuesday at 10 A.M. until they get answers.
