Colorado Springs seeks ban of Pot dispensaries near churches
Snarf (can't take the competition with the "blessed" weed, it seems)

Proposal Would Buffer Churches From Pot Shops
http://www.krdo.com/news/25026060/detail.html

Colorado Springs medical marijuana businesses are worried they'll have to close if proposed zoning rules restrict their distance to churches, synagogues and mosques in one of the state's most conservative cities.

Medical marijuana advocates are gearing for a battle over the proposed zoning rules Thursday with the Colorado Springs planning commission. The Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Council said the proposal to prohibit medical marijuana centers from being within 1,000 feet of religious institutions will force about 60 businesses to close.

2. I think they should ban churches near pot dispensaries instead.
Of course, a few of us as teens used to smoke pot between Sunday school and worship service and it really made things more entertaining for us.

5. Maybe they are concerned the pot folks will start requesting Pink Floyd....
...instead of those doleful choir hymns.

9. Oh, we are talking RW fundie Xiantiy (insanity)--type churches
they more than outnumber, outsize and out-influence the Catholic church, despite the Latino populations.

Now if we can just separate these churches from the crap they spew.

8. actually, no, we do not want to ban dipsensaries near churches.
a very small number of anti-pot zealots do. they want to ban them everywhere. one of those nuts is a planning commissioner. note that this is not churches approaching the city, this is a member of a planning commission contacting churches on her own trying to drum up outrage.

churches have been conspicuously absent from the debate, presumably because they know their congregations smoke up, and are even cannabis related business owners themselves. in fact, one of the largest dispensaries in the state is owned by a member of new life church.

don't be fooled by colorado springs' reputation, there may be a few hundred thousand right wing christian conservative nutjobs here, but they smoke a ton of reefer.

10. They are everywhere.
I went to pick up a pizza a couple of evenings ago and there was a medical marijuana center 2 doors down in this small semi-mall, right next to the luncheonette... :-)

17. For real?
Is it a somewhat legit type thing? Or can most people get them? As for me, I've got a shit load of physical problems, but I never see the doc. If I could get a scrip for legal bud, though, I'd be all about that.

18. You would have no problem..
Got a crick in your neck? You qualify.

And the competition seems to be bringing the prices down a lot. The Colorado Springs Independent has ads on almost every page. It's a real Pandora's Box. :-)

20. There is one walking distance to me, but in a more upscale
shopping area of Denver. The building has a nice floral mural on one side and they sell vintage clothing and crap as well. If they weren't making lots of $$ on pot, they'd never be able to afford the rent in that area. Sort of surprising.

24. So, since my current knowledge of varieties is limited to
what I hear on Showtime's "Weeds" (lol), is it any "good?" I could tell you what was in favor during my college years, but then I'd really be dating myself. ;)

26. Yes, there are many, many different brands.

they usually divide into two classes, indica and sativa. Sort of like uppers and downers. And many sub-classes under each.

21. That's awesome.
I live in Maryland, which is a MM state, but I don't believe dispensaries are allowed, so you have to obtain elsewhere. It never sounded really worth it to me to get my card. I've got a very bad back and I sneeze so violently at times that just a single sneeze can throw out my back. I know that bud helps me, it makes the aching so distant that it's not a problem and I can get on with my day. I'm thinking now it might be worth it to get that card, even if I have no idea how I'd obtain the bud once I do.

12. What are the churches so goddamned afraid of?
I guess they fear that the hold they have over their members will evaporate in a puff of smoke.
