O’Donnell: School shootings caused by lack of Bible and prayer studies
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/09/christine-odonnell-school-shootings-due-lack-bible-prayer-studies/

The newest Republican nominee for US Senate has been called "nutty" by even Karl Rove – and yet another controversial statement from her past has appeared.

Tea Party favorite Christine O’Donnell, who routed longtime Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) in the Delaware Republican primary Tuesday night, years ago claimed that school shootings are caused by a lack of Bible and prayer studies in class.

“We took the Bible and prayer out of public schools, and now we're having weekly shootings practically,” O’Donnell, then a Christian activist, said in August 1998 during an appearance on ABC’s “Politically Incorrect.”

She didn't cite any sources and defended her statement when host Bill Maher and other guests scoffed. She prefaced: “My point is there are consequences to our actions, and if we as a nation tolerate sin, generations to come will reap the effects.”

uhh....yeah....right.

3. Uh, the bible never was in schools, was it?
Keep the bible in church where it belongs. Or in private religious school.

4. The last notable church shooting I recall...
...was in 2008, when a liberal-hating, homophobic, self-identified Southern Confederate and product of a dominionist Christian upbringing opened fire (killing two and wounding six) on a Unitarian church during a children's production of "Annie."

Of course, this was initially blamed on some godless "atheist madman."

I'll tell that lunatic what happens "weekly" -- and, by some estimates, once every two to three days -- in this country: a trangender person is murdered.

Just when I thought no one could disgust me more than Sarah Palin...

5. And who didn't pray enough when he walked into a church
and shot a doctor dead. A doctor who was there to just guide people to their seats. Oh so I guess that wasn't his fault, it wasn't the republicans constant bleeting on fox, Rush and Beck urging people to do stuff like that's fault. It was because the liberals didn't let him pray enough in school. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!! The nuttier they are the more the tea bags go for them. That Miller in Alaska is a fruit cake also.

6. This certainly brings up the interesting
possibility of taking away all guns and letting people arm themselves with Bibles. Please don't anyone defend the Second Amendment for a moment, just bear with me here. Oh, and I also recognize that there would be a logistical problem in rounding up all guns, but just think about it for a bit.

Imagine a world in which if you wanted to kill someone all you could do was beat that person to death with a Bible? There would probably be a forum here on DU discussing which translation of the Good Book was best for that purpose.

I now return you to the current reality, in which the Second Amendment seems alive and well, and many people have guns. But now I'm wondering if more homes have Bibles than guns.

Actually, every time someone tries to claim that violence in the schools is something that never ever happened in the Good Old Days, I suggest they read Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, a fictionalized version of her husband's (Almanzo Wilder)childhood. I think it's in the second chapter where it mentions that the oldest boys in the one-room school house Almanzo attended bragged that a teacher never completed a term because they'd always beat him up. A semester or two earlier, they'd beaten one teacher so badly he died.

7. Well, except for the one that targeted a school prayer group
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_High_School_shooting

The Heath High School shooting occurred at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky, United States, on Monday, December 1, 1997. Fourteen-year-old Michael Carneal opened fire on a group of praying students, killing three and injuring five more....

On December 1, 1997 Carneal wrapped a shotgun and a rifle in a blanket and took them to school, passing them off as an art project he was working on. He also carried a loaded .22 pistol in his backpack. Carneal rode to school with his sister and arrived at approximately 7:45 a.m. When he arrived, he inserted earplugs and took the pistol out of his bag. He fired eight rounds in fast succession at a youth prayer group. Five people were hit in their heads and another three were hit in their chests. Three girls died while hospitalized and five others were wounded.

So, at least in Paducah, it appears that school prayer groups also cause school shootings. Which puts the Sarah Palin wannabe in a bit of a logical conundrum.
