We are so confident that we are going to win this seat that we are not putting our money where our mouths are? If we (PROGRESSIVES NETROOTS GRASSROOTS et al) don't get off our asses we deserve whatever happens to us in Delaware and everywhere else.

O'Donnell Hauls In $1 Million, Coons Takes In $125,000

The best spin coming from the Republican Party in the wake of Christine O'Donnell's primary victory in Delaware this past Tuesday has been that a GOP already fueled with conservative enthusiasm is now even more energized.

Appearing on MSNBC Thursday afternoon, RNC Communications Director Doug Heye relayed that the committee had received a $10,000 donation on Wednesday "because they were excited about Christine O'Donnell's win."

Reports emerged shortly thereafter that O'Donnell herself raised more than $1 million online on Wednesday, a staggering total that could go a long way in a state like Delaware.

How wary this makes Democrats is an open question and not just because the going bet is that no amount of money can make O'Donnell palatable to general election voters.

Democrats should continue to fight here, but the Republicans know the DE Senate race is a drain for them. They're saving some face with token support, but Castle is not endorsing and their defacto national campaign manager/bag man (Karl Rove) already went on national TV to brand O'Donnell as an unelectable fraudster.

. . .knock doors. I'm not calling on everyone to go to Delaware but there are local House and Senate campaigns everywhere and we need to get motivated.

If we were motivate Coons would also have raised $1 million. Tea baggers don't have a money advantage on us.

Coons isn't the new name of the moment, and has had much more time to build up a warchest. If it keeps being 8/1 then we have a problem.

...there's no name recognition left to build -- it's not like New York where you need to introduce an upstate candidate to the city, or a city candidate upstate.

Her positions are the last thing any competent campaign will want to highlight.

In a primary campaign such a war chest might drive an opponent out of the race -- but that doesn't happen in a general election.

What will that money be used to buy?

Her win generated excitement among the nuts, and they opened their wallets. I doubt that it will last.

As for Coons, I didn't expect that the election would be a big fundraising event for him as people were not withholding their donations until they knew the identity of the nominee -- he ran unopposed.

All that said, we still have work to do, but I dount this is a harbinger of anything.
