Top Financial Bracket Received 50% of Income

In 2009, the top financial bracket, which is those individuals making $137,632 and above, received 50.3% of the total national income. Additionally, the top 5% received 21.7% of the income - 1% more than in 2008. The top two brackets, those making $100,000 and above, received 73.5% of the nation's income in 2009. This data is from an annual population report released today from the US Census, which is available at this link: http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/p60.html . The report also contains health insurance statistics and shows that the number of Americans without health insurance has increased for the first time since health insurance record keeping began in 1987.
