Out of a work a year, praying for an extension on my benefits- and hearing I am not wanting to work because I am on the 'dole'.
Then I got an interview in June. Customer service, not what I usually do (programming, data bases, data center mgt). Pay lower than I have made since 1999. I was told 'Sorry, but you are an alternate - if someone does not take the job we will call you'
The next day they called, and I started the job with 3 other people from my temp company and 7 others from another company. The company I was working for has so many temps there that have an office in the building (for this particular seasonal position though they had just us three).
I would make only a bit more than I did on UE, but jumped - knowing the company (the temp one) and the client were afraid I would leave for something better.
Yesterday: I interviewed for the job, second interview, and was told by my senior manager that I had outdone everyone in my department on calls and emails (and I was only supposed to be handling emails, but things got busy). She talked about my other skills and how I could help them with their website, data reporting, etc and so on.
Today: The temp company's two bosses I report to at the site brought us up all donuts. Setting them in the empty cube next to mine (one of only two empty ones on the floor). The two other people I started with had either quit or been canned.
My Mgr was also standing there, as was his boss, and her boss. One by one they reached out and shook my hand and said "Congratulations, you have been awarded the employee of the month". Me. Of all the temps in the facility with our company (about 100) - based on my performance and the recommendations of my supervisor and manager who worked for the company. They gave me a gift card, a coffee mug, and a nicely framed certificate and said than an email would be sent out letting people know that the donuts today for our floor were because of my hard work.
You told me I was lazy. That I did not want to work. That I was sitting on UE just to collect the 'free' money. You told me I didn't really want to work and that I was lazy.
Today, once more in my life, I proved your worthless asses wrong. People want a chance to work, and just because they are not working does not mean they don't want to be. I took a lower paying job and still worked it hard as I did when I made damned good money.
You were wrong about me and others, and you always will be.
