Goldman Sachs donates $20 million to NYC charter school.
I'm sure it's just because the boys at Goldman are so philanthropically-minded, right? Right?

Landing a $20M pot of Goldman

A fund created by Goldman Sachs is giving $20 million for a charter school and community center in Harlem.

The donation to the Harlem Children's Zone is the largest ever by the Goldman Sachs Gives fund.

Harlem Children's Zone President Geoffrey Canada said yesterday that the gift -- coming ahead of the release of the documentary "Waiting for Superman," examining five families in a charter-school lottery -- will enable his organization to build a school and community center in Harlem's St. Nicholas Houses.

1. How sweet of them. How far would that $20 mil have gone in the public school system?
Arizona is charter school hell and my public school educated son pays the price every day for it.

9. If this charter school is part of the SEED program it is well worth it. I just watched
a piece on 60 minutes about this program. It really does seem like the only way for some to escape their environment and get the right support scholastically. The SEED program treats middle school to high school like a boarding school with tutors , discipline for homework, no tv. , lights out at a reasonable time, etc. The kids get to go home on the weekends.

All of the kids from last years graduating class went to college.

3. What happened to that free market competition?
Why don't they also give $20 million to a public school in the same area and compare results? :sarcasm:
