fwd: Sad news from Austin - Molly Ivins
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 12:56 PM by sfexpat2000
(from an email list I read)

I'm sorry the news I bring is so dire, but many are wondering: Molly Ivins is indeed losing her fight with cancer. She's out of the hospital and back at home, on life support with organ failure. She is lucid some of the time, and spending her last hours with close friends and relatives.

She asks that no more flowers or cards be sent as she is overwhelmed, and certainly visitors are a burden at this point (she knows you are with her in spirit). Please send prayers, love, good wishes (I'm attempting to get and send to her a copy of video of Sat.'s rally where 1500 of us collectively sent it in a giant yell!) and if you want to honor her, instead of gifts, she asks that you give to the ACLU or the Texas Observer/Texas Democracy Foundation in her name. I would imagine a 3rd alternative is giving to a cancer org. of your choice.

Giving to Observer: https://www. texasobserver. org/donate. php
Giving to ACLU: https://secure. groundspring. org/dn/index. php?aid=13993

133. My initial writing was when she was still alive, but she has
obviously passed away after a heroic battle and I am shattered.

I can barely read the screen due to my tears of sadness.

It's not fair.

Ann Richards will be at the Pearly Gates waiting for Molly. Gads, heaven is in for a time!

Go in peace Molly Ivins. And thank you for your tireless service to this nation. :patriot:
It will take a couple battalions of us to carry the load you shouldered.

7. Very sad news indeed. Great loss for Texas and the country.
Molly was a saving grace for me while living in Texas. She was one of the journalists who woke me up and got me actively engaged in the political process.

God bless Molly Ivins and her family. She has given the yellow rose of Texas more meaning, because she is one.

May her spirit continue to inspire, enlighten and bring laughter to all fellow travelers on this road towards justice and fairness for everybody.

Molly's writing has really helped me get through these dark times since 12/12/2000. I don't know how I will be able to deal without her wit, wisdom, common sense, passionate writing. She's a treasure and a joy and it is so unfair to happen to her so young.

Molly! I send peaceful loving vibes in you direction. Love and gratitude for every syllable. :patriot:

40. In tribute to her career: Classic Molly Ivins' quotes
• I have been attacked by Rush Limbaugh on the air, an experience somewhat akin to being gummed by a newt. It doesn't actually hurt, but it leaves you with slimy stuff on your ankle.

• Everyone knows the man has no clue, but no one there has the courage to say it. I mean, good gawd, the man is as he always has been: barely adequate.

• It's like, duh. Just when you thought there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the two parties, the Republicans go and prove you're wrong.

• It is possible to read the history of this country as one long struggle to extend the liberties established in our Constitution to everyone in America.

• I dearly love the state of Texas, but I consider that a harmless perversion on my part, and discuss it only with consenting adults.

• The first rule of holes: when you're in one, stop digging.

61. When my mother's liver was taken over by a tumor, it happened very fast
Organ failure gets you pretty fast from what I have seen. I hope Molly doesn't suffer. We were told there were no more treatments for mother on Nov. 29th, she died on Dec. 2ed.

I prayed the Memorare from the time my mother coded till she passed. I prayed for her to have peace, and she did. And I say it again for another great lady.

Remember, most loving Virgin Mary,
never was it heard
that anyone who turned to you for help
was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,
though burdened by my sins,
I run to your protection
for you are my mother.

Mother of the Word of God,
do not despise my words of pleading
but be merciful and hear my prayer.
Amen.

68. To Molly
Go in peace, and without pain. I can never thank you enough for everything you've done to bring truth to the country through your incredible writing. We will at least have your words to remember you by. I wish you weren't leaving, you will be missed more than you can know.

Say hello to Ann when you reach the end of your journey. Townes Van Zandt is probably writing a song in your honor right now. It'll be sung by Townes and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and will pay tribute to your grace, courage, wit, and dedication.

75. A national treasure
We were lucky to have had her with us. :toast: :patriot:

Sometimes, when things could get so dark during these Bush years, she'd come out with a column that would help to make it more laughable. So glad we've got so many of her writings, she's leaving a big part of herself behind for us.

Generous soul.

84. That's so sad.
I discovered her thru commondreams.org, where I quickly learned that a column by Molly Ivins was a treat to be savored. She's such a wonderful writer, a spitfire, not afraid to call a spade a spade. Her voice will be sorely missed, that's for sure. But the greater loss is to her family and friends, who will lose her.

As has been said, Ann Richards, another lady of the same ilk, will be waiting by the doors to heaven to greet her, and God'd better watch out when that duo is reunited. Those heavenly clouds'll not be safe again with those two roaming around.

She has been so important to America over the past 6 years and more, and to think that she won't get to see Bush and Cheney go down and get their justice. At least she got to see the Dems take over Congress.

Terrible.

92. God Bless Molly Ivins
God bless and keep the wonderful Molly Ivins, and bring her to Heaven soon. Sometimes, you do not get better, and we will all be there someday. Say Hi to my Mom, Molly--she loved you, too--and say Hi to the beloved Ann Richards. We will keep up the fight, laughing at stupid, greedy Republicans the whole time. We are starting to win now. A sad and terrible day, but we can keep the message and the fight going.

97. Go gently, Molly...
THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker
Along the shore I spy a ship
As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.

I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she’s but a speck,
Then someone says, “She’s gone.”

Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.

Beyond the dim horizon’s rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we’re crying, “There she goes!”
They’re shouting, “Here she comes!”

We’re built to cruise for but a while
Upon this trackless sea
Until one day we sail away
Into infinity.

She was so brilliant, so scathing.

There was still so much Bush left to bash.

The reward of a lifetime, to join the divine.
Thank you God, for giving her to us when she was so very needed.
Thank you God for the rewards bestowed in Heaven upon the truly righteous, those who have given voice to the meek, vision to the isolated, and hope to the despairing.

Thank you God, for giving us such a treasure, and know that she was yeilded back with unmeasurable reluctance.

Take care of our treasure.
