Soldier In Iraq Calls Out Bush For Evading His Question About Escalation

On Monday, NPR senior correspondent Juan Williams interviewed President Bush and asked him a question from Spec. Ryan Schmidt of Forest Lake, MN, who is serving in Iraq: “What if your plan for a troop surge to Baghdad does not work?”

Transcript:

JOHN McCHESNEY: Yesterday, one of the extended Minnesotans got to ask a question when NPR’s Juan Williams interviewed President Bush. Spec. Ryan Schmidt asked if the president had a plan if his troop surge didn’t work.

Here’s what the president said:

Well, I would say to Ryan, I put it in place on the advice of a lot of smart people, particularly the military people who think it will work, and let us go into this aspect of the Iraqi strategy feeling it will work. But I will also assure Ryan that we’re constantly adjusting to conditions on the ground.

We asked Spec. Schmidt if he was satisfied with the president’s answer.

SCHMIDT: No, it did not answer my question. I would have liked to know more so that there will be a plan if this does not work. For some of us that are over here, particularly me, my unit, we all feel, what’s the point of us being extended if your initial plan to send more troops over here does not work? What are you going to do, Mr. President?

1. Godspeed to all in the military.
They have a criminal sociopath for a Commander In Chief.

5. WE 'hired' him. WE have to 'fire' him. Nobody else can do that job.
We can't pass the buck. We can't hide behind a thicket of pointing fingers. We either 'fire' these bastards or suffer the consequences of not doing our job.

9. I didn't hire that piece of shit. He was appointed by the USSC.
I support any legal and practical efforts to oust them, including impeachment, if it can be done.

2. Remember Bush told Pelosi that the plan will work because he told
the commanders to make it work...

3. That's an easy one...
he'll blame it on the Democrats, and everyone else who has opposed him. One thing is for sure, he will never accept the blame.

11. He's ALREADY shifting the blame!
As one commenter on the Think Progress link pointed out, Bush was careful to say that he "put (the plan) in place on the advice of a lot of smart people." So if the plan fails, Bush can say it wasn't his fault; he was just given bad advice!

6. He'll ride in the lead vehicle. He'll get 'forward observer' assignments.

There're many assignments that will reduce his life expectancy.

7. Bush had two other great lines in that interview
He said that if we pulled out, the terrorists wer going to "follow us home." I had visions of someone knocking down a hornets nest and running like mad. He also said that that "Iran is tryng to rewrite the history of the past."

10. He ain't the decider he's the deceiver
He don't even feel like he owes congress or the American people the answers anymore. He's turned into the Dictator instead of the Decider.
