Yeah, that "higher standard" has always been a hallmark for Republicans.

1. the picture of nixon brought back memories
of my late father in law. he was a blue collar, staunch republican. after watergate, he said "show me a politician and i'll show you a crook". don't think he ever voted again.

13. Reminds me of a Nixon era joke, too...Secret service finds "Nixon Sucks"
written in urine in the snow on the WH lawn...They tell Nixon it is Agnew's urine, but Pat's handwriting...

17. What gets me about Nixon
is that Watergate happened and was being reported before the election, and he still won in a landslide. Eagleton affair or no, people had to overlook Watergate to vote for Nixon. And they did.

12. Publicly, they have to have a good profile.
If people knew what crooked sleazmeisters they were, nobody would vote for them and they couldn't continue the crooked things they do.

18. Should have read--the problem is, as republicans...
we hold EVERYONE ELSE to a higher standard. Ourselves, not so much, as shown by those beacons of intelligent and/or ethical greatness as G.W. Bush*, Sarah Palin, John McCain, Karl Rove, and Newt Gingrich.
