9. Oklahoma gives it a run for its money...
I thought mammatus clouds only existed in the movies. Nope, they're real. And they're spectacular.

21. Yep.. people out here don;t understand what I mean when I say the sky can be yellow-green
but during tornado season, sometimes that sky-color was all you needed to see, to start for the basement:scared:

15. If they've been in Kansas for any length of time at all, they have probably
seen similar skies before. I grew up in SW Missouri, about 3 miles from the Kansas border. We got some wicked weather blowing in out of Kansas.

6. One of the scariest storms I was ever in was in Kansas.
We were passing through during a move from Colorado to the east coast.

No tornados (that I know of), but holy cow, a heck of a thunderstorm! It felt and sounded like the end of the world.

11. We get a bunch of SLC's (Scary Looking Clouds) here in Kansas,
Every year...

This was taken out the side window of the truck I used to drive,Just off of U.S.160 outside of Protection Ks in '07.

That dark spot on the lower left horizon is a house and barn.

20. This might be during the break in the FB game on Saturday.
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 12:37 PM by Stevepol
The game had to be delayed until the thunderstorm passed because of the danger from lightning. An hour and a half later the game resumed. I don't know that this is the cause, but the picture is taken from inside the FB stadium I believe.

18. I could see it now.
Me, running inside and down to the lowest level, cowering in the fetal position, freaking out...and everyone else laughing their asses off at me.

:scared:

19. I was in Kansas for a conference some years ago
And saw something very similar to that as the sun set. As the evening sky darkened, the cloud formation (which thankfully passed by us by several miles) was lit up internally by lightning strokes. An incredible show, to be sure. It reminded me of the nebula formation from Star Trek II, when the Enterprise is trying to get away from Khan and his commandeered vessel.
