and how education is failing and all that... all this comes down to the anti-intellectual tradition in the United States, going back to the 17th century. It also goes down to the cult of the individual and property also going back to the 17th century... these are things that are part of the culture. They are not easy to change, but if they don't, all this discussion is about spinning wheels and privatizing things (see we worship private property).
In the end the US is already well on it's way to second tier nation... and the fall of the American Empire will come soon. But we are well on the way. I wonder when the day will come when the US falls behind what are now second tier nations like Brazil and Mexico... (Yes Mexico is right now opening 25 new campuses in the state of Hidalgo alone, granted they have a few issues themselves and quite the anti intellectual tradition, but... they seem to be investing in education)...
But until our distrust of knowledge and educated people changes... and I am not holding my breath on that. I mean Prayze ye Jesus seems to be the slogan of the day... and we all know the world was created what was it... 6K years ago and the Bible is correct. We may make fun of those attitudes, but they are far more common than any of us want to acknowledge.
At the pace we are going... a generation and Brazil will be ahead of us... in education performance.
