Global Warming: Australia Completely Fucked
Australia temperatures to soar in 65 years

By MERAIAH FOLEY, Associated Press Writer Wed Jan 31, 6:28 AM ET

SYDNEY, Australia - Average temperatures in Sydney will rise by about 9 degrees during the next 65 years, with devastating consequences including 1,300 more heat-related deaths per year, according to a government study released Wednesday.

With Australia gripped by its worst drought on record, the issue of climate change has emerged as a battleground in this year's national elections.

Prime Minister John Howard has come under renewed criticism for not ratifying the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, making Australia the only major industrial nation other than the U.S. to reject the treaty that mandates lower emissions of global-warming greenhouse gases.

Howard did not comment on the study, which was commissioned by New South Wales, the state that includes Sydney, Australia's largest city.

12. Yep.
Enjoy it while you can. It's going to be the drought that ultimately gets them.

13. I know someone from the Queensland part of Australia..
and its so dry there that even here in a relatively wet climate (MD) he can smell rain even in a climate controlled room. And he is trying to get a job there so he can return there next year*sigh*. I hear they are now drinking the water from their sewage treatment plants because of the severity of the drought already. And its going to be worse?!

16. similar to Nevil Shutte's "On the Beach"-
except in his book, Austrialia was the last place on earth where humanity existed- it was the natural jet-stream currents that played into the plot, as it likely would on warming.

Strange how science fiction of the past often shadows a twist on the future.

Not so sure their 'future' involves "clean" nuclear power though- It isn't all that 'environmentally friendly'-

18. Anyone that thinks "Global Warming" means that everything just...
...gets a little warmer (like Chicago during winter) is a fucking idiot. Go read up on what happens to complex dynamic systems like global weather when more energy is pumped into them. It's not pretty.

Note: This rant is not aimed at the OP. It is aimed at several comments above that dismiss this study as either irrelevant or amusing.

19. Meanwhile cities in China are so polluted their air is brown yellow and green....
and nobody seems to care.

Anybody think it strange that China has had unchecked growth over the past 10 years and now the climate is changing? The bad news for them (good news for the planet) is that air like that is going to kill a LOT of Chinese in the long run.

And the gov't doesn't really care over there. At least when industry was here there was some regulation.
