Here in Boston, there will be "The commute got screwed up" stories, and "Who was the alert passenger who spotted the thing?" bits. But nationally? This is a dud already.

One day of Libby testimony coverage truncated isn't gonna make a damned bit of difference. You ask any old ten bozos out in any mall who "Matthew Cooper" is, and they'll either not know or think he's Alice's brother.

And Rove and Cheney were already put on the griddle with the Miller testimony, yesterday. This is just turning up the fire. There's a ways to go before the whole story is revealed, and bombs-a-day will get old. I'll bet, when this guy is caught, he'll have nothing to do with the trial.

Seriously. IED's have proven to be the weapon of choice in Iraq, and it would only take a couple of people to make them over here. I'm sure Iraq is full of fighters who would just LOVE to strike back at the "American Homeland". One or two skilled Iraqi insurgents smuggled into the U.S. could wreak an incredible amount of damage. Why IED's? For the same reason they make them in Iraq...because they're cheap, easy to build, and highly lethal. The psychological damage alone from IED blasts in the U.S. would probably be enough to knock a lot of the fence sitters into the anti-war camp.

When you go around the world starting wars with other countries, bombing their cities, and killing their people, don't act suprised when they try to return the favor. If the claims are legitimate, this sure shoots holes in Bushes whole "Fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" mantra!

BOSTON, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Police detonated a suspicious package near a public transportation hub just north of Boston on Wednesday morning.

Authorities strung wires around the package that was resting on a steel beam under Interstate 93 before blowing it up, Boston's WBZ radio reported. It was not immediately clear what the package contained or who placed it there.

"It still looked suspicious due to some wires and tubing around it. They decided to detonate it," Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority spokesman Joe Pesaturo said on New England Cable News television....

Boston, MA (AHN) - Massachusetts state police have said the suspicious package found Wednesday morning on an elevated structure underneath I-93 in Charlestown didn't contain any explosives. The package, described as having wires and tubes protruding from it, caused state police to shut down a part of I-93 as a safety precaution.

According to a report by WCVB-TV, the sight of the suspicious package was reported by a transit passenger at about 8 am, following which transit officials closed both sides of the highway....

“It was pandemonium,” said Curt Ferrell of South Boston, who was riding the Orange Line to the Community College stop when his train stopped. “We sat there for five minutes and an announcement was made that due to some activity at Sullivan Square the train would only go as far North Station. So I said to myself, ‘Why don’t I just walk?’”

Ferrell said commuters were frantically trying to bypass police blockades on city streets along the 93 and most people didn’t know what we going on.

“The bus drivers called in and traffic cops were yelling at everyone,” said Ferrell. “People were still trying drive through the area and they couldn't turn around on one way streets. I don’t know where all these buses were from but I'm sure some people were late because they were diverted. I would say 90 percent of the people still thought it was just a traffic accident.”

BOSTON -- Four more suspicious packages have been found on several bridges in Boston and at a local medical center hours after officials detonated a suspicious package on an elevated structure above the Sullivan Square Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority station.

The additional packages were found Wednesday afternoon at the Boston University Bridge, the Longfellow Bridge and near the intersection of Stuart and Columbus streets. A device described by officials as a pipe bomb was found in the basement of the Tufts New England Medical Center at 185 Harrison Ave.

A spokesman for the Boston Police Department said that all of the packages appeared to be "hoax devices." ... He said MBTA police were told about the package by a transit passenger who spotted it on a column that supports Interstate 93. The parcel was located on an elevated structure above the bus way and below I-93 in the Charlestown section of Boston at about 8 a.m.

"This is a perfect example of our passengers taking part in Homeland Security," Venturelli said.

An investigation will be conducted into how the package got there and when, he said....

They didn't say who they thought it was, but one reporter asked if it was a terrorist, a whack job, or someone else...the response was "not terrorism" but they can't comment beyond that.

My theory is that it is either an attention seeking asswipe (hopefully who was caught on tape--there are so many cameras on those bridges) or some punk college kid who is unprepared for a midterm....

Citizens reminded to be vigilant, blah blah blah....active investigation.

Governor Patrick: Law enforcement, mayor, T, ATF, etc, all gave prompt/professional response. To be commended. We're relieved it was nothing. Investigation continues, no reason for anyone to panic, just as always stay vigilant.

They're gonna put out extra T police to make people feel better. Whoever did this is looking at two to five years for each hoax device, we aren't playin' around, and we aren't havin' it. HEAVY PENALTY for responsible person. We're stayin' focused, and thanks to everyone....

Now they're doing the news conference--the commish is saying he's gonna bag the bum who did this--full investigation, thankfully none of devices proven to be active. Several devices do have common characteristics....no indications that this is a terrorist act. As to who is behind it, cannot comment right now. Investigating numerous leads and comments (one reporter suggested it was a marketing campaign for something---that is stupid in the extreme...)
