Don't count on Murkowski losing because people can't spell her name

In most states, if the "intent of the voter" is clear, the vote counts.

For instance, in Kootenai County we've got two registered write-ins: Howard Griffiths is running for the Idaho House against Phil Hart (google this maniac) and Rick Currie is running for county commissioner against Jai Nelson. If someone writes in either one, and it is obvious they are voting for the registered write-in (say, writing Rick Curry or Harold Griffiss) the vote goes to the candidate.

Oh yeah: I gotta tell you Phil Hart's latest atrocity. A couple weeks ago I told you about his going out in School Board Conservancy land and harvesting enough trees to build a house, without paying for them of course. He's been rebuked several times over this shit, and finally he agreed to pay for the logs. Well...he sent the school system a check for the market value of the raw timber at the time he harvested it (which is far lower than the current cost of the trees) but he marked it "voluntary donation" rather than "payment for timber." Right now the school system has no idea what to do with the check.

1. And Murkowski is a legacy name in AK politics.

People will be able to spell it. Lots of Russian names up there.

ETA: Heh, heh, heh. Maybe Murkowski isn't a Russian name. But they've got a lot of non-typical 48 contigious state names up there. The only reason a write-in of Murkowski wouldn't succeed is if AK voters are just sick of her.

3. I think Alaska doesn't go by the intent of the voter. The name

has to be exact.
