A military jury has
sentenced Omar Khadr to 40 year term. In my opinion, Mr. Khadr is guilty of his crime, but due to significant evidence of torture, I would sentence Mr. Khadr to time served and I would personally apologize to Mr. Khadr for the treatment that he receieved. I would also award for punitive damages aganist the US government for improper treatment of detainee.
While the crime might warrant a term of 40 years in ordinary criminal case, this case has extraordinary migating circumstances that warrant a significantly less sentence than the court would normally impose. In addition, puntitive damages set at $50,000,000 would be assessed aganist the United State government for allegations of torture
I consider torture to be unacceptable and weakens United States moral resolve overseas. They damage our soliders who fight in numerous foreign engagement. Therefore, the US government needs to be held accountable for its action.
