As my 10,000th post, I need a favor: Are there any practicing attorneys here?
I can certainly provide background and details, but I essentially need help with a cease-and-desist letter (a business matter), and am wondering if any practicing attorneys here can help (it needs to be on a firm's letterhead, not simply from me).

Thanks. :hi:

1. Retired...but here I do have some advice:
Go to a local atty and pay him/her a few dollars for the letter. Getting a letter from out of the area atty usually ends up in the Circular file.

3. It would be going to someone in a different state, not local to me.

:)

And I've been quoted $300 to do a letter without them even knowing details of what is involved.

:(

7. Not sure what area of law your matter concerns...
...but the laws and procedures of one state are often much different than another. To what state would your letter be addressed? You might wish to contact the State Bar and their Lawyer Referral service. Have you tried that?

8. I will try that. The intended recipient of the letter is in Florida...

I'm in North Carolina. It concerns a business matter.

Thank you. :)

23. The Florida Bar does have a referral service with a hotline
http://www.flabar.org/divpgm/lronline.nsf/wreferral6?OpenForm

Lawyer Referral
1-800-342-8011

They do have some rules about how the referral service works, so check out the web site.

2. People say that about my comments.
Because they want it on a 'letter head' they agree with. LOL

That is how they decide not based on what is right, but based on what they already want to believe.

I am confident that my position has defended itself, not by flash, but because it has not been argued against.

15. "A business matter"

That can mean a lot of different things - Contract, Employment, Real Estate... most everything attorneys do is a "business matter" of one kind or another.

If you have an intellectual property dispute, please feel free to drop me a line.

17. Not intellectual property....

but thank you for asking for more clarity.

It started as me simply wanting to send a cease-and-desist letter (that's probably too vague, but it's the best I can do on a public forum), and now there is a question of breach of contract due to the actions of the other party.

But I now see it is indeed complicated if a breach of contract is to be pursued, as the laws of two different states would come into play.

Oy.

:eyes:

Still, a simple cease-and-desist is what is most important to me at the moment.

Thanks. :)

16. Maybe some of the lawyers here
can help you find one in FL, or post in the FL forum? It's a good idea to get a referral so you get someone good who won't charge you an arm and a leg.

25. You're welcome...
and congrats on your 10,000th post. I just posted my 1,000th today, coincidentally. If you have a friend who is a lawyer or an acquaintance who can get you a referral that is a good bet. Since you are in the south, I wouldn't think that would be too hard, especially if the lawyer works at a mid-sized firm, he or she can ask around for referrals. My husband is a lawyer but his firm doesn't have much business in FL, if any. If you are not having any luck though, I can ask him to check with his firm. Through his firm we found a lawyer in Ohio to help a friend of ours with a legal matter at one time. Good luck! Did you post this on Wishadoo? I noticed that you started that, (congrats on that too, BTW) maybe someone there could help?

32. Seeking legal advice from strangers on the internet...what possibly could go wrong?

Seriously, you should take the advice proffered to you elsewhere in this thread and seek out a local attorney for the legal services you need. :hi:

Edit: clarity.

33. Thanks, but this post is just that: Seeking a referral....

Not asking anyone to tell me what or how to do it here in the post itself. I don't know any practicing attorneys personally, so DU is my standard "go to" place for referrals and different types of information.

:hi:
