I've heard rumors of my buddy Chuck Schumer also in the running.

1. The senate will hold an election and elect a leader.

Both men are in the running, and no one else has the popularity or chops inside the Senate.

2. if Reid is not re-elected, we might be a minority in the Senate, so no need to wonder

If Reis is out and we still have the majority, there will be an election in January for Leader

edited because I'm an idiot.

5. Don't like either one....
..but of the two Schumer seems to be the one with a more killer instinct who doesn't seem to be afraid to get down in the mud. Not sure that's a ringing endorsement, since I don't always trust him to be suitably progressive, but he is from a blue state which is what we need in a majority leader. The irony of Reid losing is that he very likely always had one eye on tough re-elections. Schumer should be fairly safe for the time being.

10. We need a leader, not a weakling like Reid. He is afraid of republicans.

19. Schumer supported the war and pro-torture Mukasey, Durbin did not.
Of the two, Durbin's the only one who could be considered anything close to liberal.

I'd prefer Durbin by a mile.

BTW, I think Reid should step down as majority leader even if he wins his seat, which I certainly hope he does.

20. Reid has not lost yet. And if he loses, chances are we'll be looking at McConnell's pasty mug.
