Hey I picked up some votes today on the subway after the LA rally!

I was kind of annoyed with carrying the rally signs back to the subway but I didn't want to just leave them sitting around - I already have all the signs up at my house. But, it turned out to be a good thing because, when you are carrying these things people approach you!

A college aged student (books in backpack getting off at LA City College) said, to me, yes, Brown, not Whitman! Then talked among his friends about it. One of them asked me how they know they are still registered and where to vote. I gave him the voter info line.

A shy older man told me that he had filled out his mail in vote but was carrying it around with him in his briefcase because he had changed his mind after filling it out (although he didn't say specifically it sounded like he changed it from Whitman to Brown.)

Because I had just heard Debra Bowman I was able to give him the voter hotline # and tell him he could vote however he wanted at his regular poll place tomorrow. You can take your absentee ballot there or request to vote there, even after requesting an absentee, as long as you only vote once it's OK!

I really felt like I accomplished something, not at the rally exactly but on the way home!

Anyway pass that along -- anybody still walking around with a mail-in ballot DO NOT MAIL IT!! It doesn't count if it comes in Wed, even if it was postmarked Mon. Take it to a polling station and you can vote in person.

I have to say it was heartening to hear all the people downtown chanting WE WILL VOTE! WE WILL VOTE! You know what? THEY WILL! And if we all help get out a few more votes - there will be a lot of embarrassed pundits tomorrow. LET'S DO IT!
