Diebold
Anyone care to discuss the other big stinky elephant in the room. I mean, besides Cliff Arnebeck, who has been tireless in fighting this abomination?

1. It's ES&S now. Same crap - new owners. A single company now counts 80% of the votes...
Not an audit in sight.

What a country!

2. I actually knew that but Diebold is the name most people recognize
and there has been so little talk about it. Yeah, the Dems are as energized as they were in 2008 and yet, we will likely lose seats in places where the Dem turnout is huge. I think we need to talk about this and not just in the days before and after an election.

6. To me, the scariest thing about ES&S voting machines is the operating system
Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 08:27 PM by slackmaster
They run on Windows.

I'm a professional systems administrator, and that's my view.

3. Hope is
Since this is the first election that a Dem admin is in charge, they have told the programmers to be real careful? That they WILL be looking closely at how the numbers are spit out?

That's all I got. Otherwise, we're screwed.

4. Way scary stuff here...

I don't know why this issue doesn't have legs. If you're concerned, here's one way of expressing it, based on reports:

1. Ownership of the company that makes electronic-balloting machines has expressly stated their goal of getting right-wing candidates into office.

2. The machines have have failed even the most basic of security tests.

3. Numerous examples have been cited where exit polling and absentee balloting have significant variance with machine-tallied votes.

Gotta be right up there with Citizens United.

7. Yep, there are two big steaming piles of shit in the room
One is Citizen's United and the other is Electronic Voting without verification. Two bad smells that smell really awful together.

8. K&R'd

Did people following this issue get tired of having their hair on fire and being ignored? Because I did.

I don't know how the problem could be made any plainer; and I don't know why so few people seem to take it seriously.

9. There isn't an easy answer and many of us just got exhausted
But it is as valid as the day they first thought up this awful, awful stinker.

12. Just a little tease on your phrasing is all.
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 02:57 AM by Ellipsis
... Richard Hayes Phillips fan here, and Cliff of course.

One has to think that the powers that be would know all about Diebold by now.

Surely would be nice though that at a bare minimum they dump all those frickin DRE's and anything that uses those hokey thermal printers.

Go King Lincoln Bronzeville Neighborhood Association.

Thanks, Tavalon.

13. As an aside
I'm fascinated that every time someone addresses me by my username, they capitalize the first letter. Always. 100% You're not wrong. I made a mistake when I created my username - it's supposed to be Tavalon and yet, it isn't, but people know.

When I said it was an aside, I really meant an aside!
