Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert: Worst Persons in the World!

On the night of September 16th of this year Jon Stewart announced that he would soon have an announcement of epic proportions on his late night show "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", not to be outdone Stephen Colbert, Stewart's self-described "Best frienemy" announced on his show "The Colbert Report" (both Colbert and Report are pronounced as though French with the 'T' silent) immediately after that he would have an even greater announcement to announce. The announcement: A rally, a rally on October 30th, the Saturday before Halloween for those who are moderate in voice and thought, of people who consider themselves reasonable, which, it turns out, is an idea that terrifies Colbert. His announcement: A march to keep fear alive.

Later Colbert apparently had trouble with permits, so he tricked Stewart into nicely allowing his demonstration of wholly opposite nature to piggy-back on Stewarts, thus what was originally the "Rally to Restore Sanity" and the "March to Keep Fear Alive" became the "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear".

The rally was a huge success drawing in about a quarter million people and picking up endorsements from many celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, but at least one thing happened that has caused some controversy among democrats: Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz were shown on a video montage along with clips of Glenn Beck, tea party members and other pop culture video clips depicting disgruntled, angered people whom were casted as having a negative impact on society.

Two days later, today Olbermann responded by saying his angry comments were in defense of the little guy: "Standing up for the powerless is not the same as standing up for the powerful," a statement aimed at FOXNEWS. This statement followed with Olbermann's announcement that he was considering ending his "Worst Person in the World" segment, as the clips used by Stewart and Colbert were from this segment, which shows him describing recent actions done by people or companies and an explanation of why they were horrible and deserving of the title played to eerie organ music. Sometimes it was in jest, for example the president of the US Postal service resigning because of loss of revenue due to expansion of web-based deliveries and mail by email or very serious, such as corrupt actions of politician, companies and individuals.

For causing Keith Olbermann to cancel the epic mini-countdown of people who suck, Jon Stewart and Sir Stephen Colbert, DFA, you are tonight's Worst persons.... In the world!

13. Really, now, that's a silly thing to say.

It's about a mistake in judgment regarding Keith Olbermann's reporting being categorized with Fixed News' style of reporting. Jon was wrong. He threw a reporter with integrity under the bus.

Pointing out a lapse in judgment isn't the same as throwing someone under the bus. No one is complaining about Jon as a person. He's very well-liked here & that has not been the issue at all.

his faux liberal schtick wasn't fooling me. When Joe Lieberman threw his hat in with McCain and "Big Ed" did his "hard hitting interview" which consisted of 20 minutes of Ed kissing LIEberman's ass and fawning all over him, without a mention of the many betrayal's Lieberman perpetrated on the Democrats I had had enough of that hack. Have a sense of humor, and why can they just throw Keith and Ed under the bus? And why didn't they show any clips of themselves adding to the crazy (because they kind of have a little over the years).

IMO Ed, Keith, Jon and Stephen were only being crazy in defense. I remember after 9/11 the republicans got angry, scared and jingoistic. They shouted down opposition to the Iraq war, shouted down John Kerry with Swiftboat, shouted in tax cuts and the media was theirs; You were with them or against them or a supporter of the terrorists or anti-American and if you didn't like it you could get out! ...Until a few people showed up who succeeded in disagreeing with them, like Keith, Jon, The Onion and The Nation. Since then I think there's been less fear for people of all different points of view to have their say and insist that we keep things to facts.

6. Comedy shows

don't necessarily have to be factually accurate, something which can take a lot of time and effort and resources to achieve. They just have to try to be funny.

In that light, I'd say Jon Stewart took a cheap shot and deserves to be today's Worst Person In The World.

25. I like both Jon and Stephen but the rally was a huge waste of time IMO..

We have some of the most extreme people ever, on the verge of getting into office and he holds a rally, basically calling out the MSM, which everyone already knows is tilted to the right. Why not call out the real troublemakers and encourage people to vote. Maybe someone should send Jon a copy of the positions of some of these baggers or a copy of the police reports from some of the right-wingers who have turned to violence.

when we have people like Rand Paul and a few other very extreme people possibly getting elected. This is no time for fun and games. The right is playing for keeps, they know exactly what they want and will literally step on anyone to get it.

We have more in-fighting than they do on the right. We wallow in it for days on end -- analyzing, criticizing and dumping on whoever made the latest faux pas or was less than perfect in their TV appearance, interview, etc.

Who the hell can fill these shoes? It's ridiculous. We need to realize our own limitations as well as our strengths if we want to move this Party forward.

The tea party is the closest the republicans have ever come to having any kind of Party division, but they'll figure out a way to spin it as a positive for their side. Either way, they get more seats at the table.

Meanwhile, we heap it on our own -- constantly splitting and dividing our own because of so many single-issue voters. Every Democrat inevitably falls from the pedestal on which we have stupidly placed them. Next week, Olbermann could say something we don't like, and start a hundred more flaming threads. (If you've been here as long as me, you know it could happen at any moment.)

So yeah, the right has Rand Paul, Christine O'Donnell, Sarah Palin, etc. They're all morons who have become household names -- as if they are viable candidates. The right long ago proved they could get the public to vote for anyone (Reagan). They only care about winning, and they'll just pull the puppet's strings later (GWB). But when Limbaugh, Hannity, or O'Reilly say something stupid (from their perspective) or even just something they disagree with -- they don't keep it alive. They realize that, for the most part, those talking heads are on their side, doing the daily job of getting their message out.

We have plenty of candidates on our side who would also step on others to get what they want -- real fighters -- but support drops as soon as they scream, ride in a tank, talk about standing by their man, etc.

Basically, we eat our own -- be they candidates or talking heads.

It's not his job to tell people to vote and especially vote a certain way. Quite frankly, he came too close to that "after-school special" moment that South Park parodies at the end of every show with his speech at the end. The rally was a parody of what Beck does, not a reply. It may very well have been a waste of time to you, but in the end it was nothing more than a big entertainment show anyhow and the people who showed up got what they wanted out of it. The people in the crowd are generally disillusioned and probably will be catching up on their TiVo tonight aside from watching the Daily Show and Colbert while you and I cry about election results and the oncoming disaster. They'll probably be happier folks for it.

30. Jon's optimism surprises me

Firstly he's a New Yorker! Some of the most pessimistic, jaded and misanthropic people on Earth! (deal with morning rush hour on the A train long enough, you'll see lol). Secondly because he reads the news everyday, the world has so many selfish and ignorant people who seem to make it clear that they don't want what he considers sanity.

Honestly, and I don't mean it in a bad way, his speech was sort of utopian and a bit naive, but definitely I think we all can whether or not we agree that it could or will happen, agree that it would be a nice world if it actually could just be like that.

means not really having to deal with the teabaggers. The Democrats are going to do very well in New York today (downstate) so it's easy to be a bit more optimistic. We're not going to have a Sharon Angel or Rand Paul as our Senator (ours will be the extremely acceptable Chuck Schumer and Kristin Gillibrand). I know I look at the news and see who is ahead in the polls in some of the states and at the same time I'm glad I live in New York, I look at these candidates and wonder "Who the fuck would vote for these people?".
