Metaphor for this whole Jon Stewart/ MSNBC silliness
Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 10:56 PM by DFab420
This is something I've though about Jon Stewart's jabs on the left for a while. I take them in stride and think we all need to take a deep breathe and focus on voting..

Here is the metaphor: It makes sense in my head..

Let's say your roommate is loud, obnoxious, and defensive. You both pay rent on time, and don't normally get too heated with each other. However lately your arguments have taken a more serious turn. Your friend witnesses you and your roommate have a few fights, and while he/she agree that you are much more calm about it, he/she and you both know that if you just put it on your roommate he/she will get defensive, and loud, and obnoxious, and nothing will change. So you and he decide to sit down with your roommate and he mediates the talk between you. If he/she said you BOTH needed to calm down, even though only ONE of you did, why would you choose then to freak out about calming down...It would defeat the purpose of the whole talk.. .

Seriously. I understand why Jon Stewart has to throw in a few clips of KO and MSNBC, because if he didn't he couldn't make a point at all. I think we need to pick up on the wink and the nudge and realize that being upset and defensive about something WE both know we don't even do... is a bit ridiculous.

1. And if your roommate attacked both you & your friend, and you defended yourselves?
Jon Stewart claims to have been seeking sanity yet he criticizes the sane along with the insane, making no distinction.

2. "pick up on the wink and the nudge "
Exactly.
I really don't understand what is going on here today with the attacks on Stewart.
I think we can get it and carry on.

My metaphor: The person who is called upon (volunteered) to put together the annual holiday party at work, or a special event for a group works their ass off putting something nice together. The next day, the complainers line up to register their complaints about how the event was put together and what the said volunteer should do next time.
Having been in that situation, I have told people that they are entitled to complain when they are the ones who volunteer to do the job. Screw 'em!

3. It might help you to realize that probably 50% of posters here are just trying to stir shit up
and make progressives look whiny, clueless, divided, smug, weak, petty, etc.

Nothing good happens to liberal politicians that doesn't get shredded and picked over by the
trolls here. Some of them are pretty clever but most of them are glaringly apparent.

Stewart handled the whole thing as well as any human could be expected to.
I love that future generations will venerate comedians for helping to save our society.
