You are directly causing the destruction of the democratic party and the middle class.

find out where your money goes..

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2004-10-26-campaign-contributions_x.htm

The sports world, he says, has some "heavy hitters." They're topped by Alex Spanos, owner of the NFL's San Diego Chargers. Spanos, with just three other owners — the NBA Orlando Magic's Rich DeVos, the NFL Houston Texans' Robert McNair and MLB Cincinnati Reds' Carl Lindner — produced about 71% of all money from owners and commissioners. Each is on the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans and made virtually all their donations to Republican causes or candidates.
-.....

In the game: Of the 153 owners and commissioners, 128 made one or more donations. Most gave to House or Senate candidates in the states where their clubs are located. More than half gave $10,000 or more.

About 83% of the donations went to Republican or conservative candidates or groups.

Read it and then go out and celebrate your money going into the pockets of the corporations out to destroy you.

3. From someone who has always worked/lived in the sports world
The athletes, even ones who grew up poor or are immigrants or minorities, forget all about their past when the dollars start rolling in. I worked in the locker room for a celebrity golf tournament. One well-known basketball player ran up a five figure tab in the hotel bar the night before, but couldn't be bothered to tip anyone in the clubhouse or outside for $20 or so. Screw them all.

Give me a break. I live in San Francisco. People have waited a long time for this, and the revenue for the city that was brought in, was fantastic and just what we needed. Not only that, for at least a year more tourists may want to come here to check out this town. Events like this bring more tourists to this town, a town that survives on TOURISM.

So on this day, I am NOT listening to any more crap like this.

9. I'm with the OP
The reality is, corporations sneak into our lives any way they can. Obviously we have to deal with them on some level, but overall, I'd say the point of this OP is not to say "don't enjoy sports," it's just saying be aware of what and where you spend, because even when you're not taking politics into consideration, the people receiving your money might be.

I don't think politics should be your first consideration when making average purchases, but that doesn't mean there's never a connection. Just be aware, and base decisions on more than "I want this and I can afford it."
