It's not the simple notion of "Republican takeover" that scares me
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 12:44 AM by RandySF
No, I've never supported the Republican agenda. But there was a time when they ran candidates who had a simple working knowledge of how government work, and did not talk openly about "2nd Amendment remedies" and question the president's citizenship. This band of Republicans scare the crap out of me, and when the public come to a fuller understand of what we're in for, I think they will feel the same as I do. Sharon Angle, Joe Miller, Tom Tancredo and Rand Paul. These are three people we would have never considered electable once upon a time but are possibly about to take major office. I never thought I would say this, but I want my father's GOP back.

1. Do you wonder if that isn't exactly the point? To force the Country more conservative in general?

10. They already have accomplished that goal
It is far more "conservative" (and that is a poor choice of terms to define these folks, because they really are not conservative) than it was when I was growing up in the 60's & 70's.

Have a great day, and here's hoping the pundits are (as they often are) WRONG!

11. That's Much How I Feel About The Current Crew of Reactionaries
I think we feel much the same way about the current crop of reactionaries who have risen to the forefront of the Republican Party. The difference is that I actually used to be a moderate Republican and after a while I was forced to conclude that the Republican Party had gone far too far to the right for me (And that was while George HW Bush was President).

Since then I've concluded that the GOP is no longer just ultra-conservative--they've gone beyond that. They're now outright reactionary. Furthermore, they've lost any claim they once had to being fiscally responsible, they no longer show the slightest interest in the long-term interests of the USA, much of their senior membership is none-too-subtly promoting class warfare from the top down, they're still practicing race-baiting, and they're more than willing to turn the USA into a third-world country here at home and a pariah state internationally.

I suspect that many of DU's more progressive elements disagree with me on a lot of issues. I accept that; but we've got a LOT more in common with each other politically than I do with the Republican so-called "leadership." :sarcasm:
